Ok, so the front end was all together and it was time to put the engine back in the car and start the assembly.

So I put the fuel injectors and stock rails on it, and hooked up the fuel lines. Put in the distributor, wires, etc. Got the intercooler put in.

So then it was time to button everything up and get an exhaust on it. Man did it not line up worth a crap! Nobody makes an X or an H to fit a T56 in a fox. Really sucks! So I put a BBK H on it and it was a piece of crap. had to hang down and just didn't look right.
Ugly, just ugly....

Re: Project Vert, outta control....

Thanks man. Yeah I know. I want to pull it back out and put everything on a Dart block, but I am holding off for a while. I have a lot of other projects going on and I have stuff being done to this right now while I am away. I hope to get a dart in it by spring and have it making 750 or so at the wheels, just for braggin rights. the thing will never see a drag strip, ever. No roll cage, nothing.

Re: Project Vert, outta control....

So I decided on a Magnaflow cat back for it, because of the bling of the stainless and thought I would give it a try. It fit well, but because of the H pipe hanging down, it caused the tailpipes to move up into the rear bumper cover. that didn't work out well down the road. haha.

You can also see the dynotech driveshaft that came with the viper spec T56. the rear end is stock at this point, the fuel pump is a GSS340 that had been in the car for a while now.

Ok, so it was back up top to finish out some more things. Installed the old radiator, fan shroud and new clutch fan and fan blades. Put the Pacifica chrome hose kit on it. Hooked up various wiring, ran the new wire for the alternator.

Looks great. i know how projects tend to snowball.

Oh... and get a black distributor cap, spraypaint that MSD coil to match the engine bay, dump the blue hoses, and put some grey or black wires on it. :tongue3:

Re: Project Vert, outta control....

I have the other silicone elbow but I haven't fooled with it yet. I want to put it on when I get a chance tho. I just don't like the radiator hose look of the procharger pieces. I also bought all new a/c lines and bought a new condensor core for it. I want ice cold a/c!
It's got one of our billet alternator brackets on it, so no tensioner. I was ready to fire it up now, and then go break it in on some back roads. This was before I got a dyno of my own, and that's how we did it. I just roll them onto a dyno now and break them in on the dyno. It's a lot easier, safer and no risk of a ticket.
Lost of other details that will get to later on.

Nah, I'll pass. lol. To each his own! I like the blue stuff. It matches the blue in the interior and the paint. I like a lot of color on this engine, and bling, yo! lol. Yeah, it really did get away from me. I am not even close to being done yet!

Re: Project Vert, outta control....

Ok, so I take it to the dyno a buddy of mine has. It's a very old 248a dynojet. It's inground and is a bitch to get strapped on with a lowered car, etc, but it works. So we put it on the dyno, and I'm expecting 400 or so, maybe a bit less, because it's not much boost, and first pull, I think my buddies are screwin with me. They go holy sh-- my god that's nearly 600 hp!! I said yeah right, what did it make? I go and look, 586 hp, first pull tune that I did in my living room, watching TV one Friday night and put the chip in so the car would make it down to the dyno. Fuel ratio was fine until it reached 4k, then went lean. I richened up that section of the transfer function and pulled a few degrees timing out, because this is a stock block for cryin out loud! I made the second pull, only taking it to 5500 rpms, and with 2 degrees retarded, it made 574 hp. I said man! What do I have to do to this thing to detune it? Well I pulled more timing out, added some more fuel up top and made another pull, 546 hp. I gave up. I put some of the timing back in it so the car wouldn't bake the coating off the headers and drove it home.

Re: Project Vert, outta control....

Finally a second page! lol. So I take it back and realized that it was going to self destruct on pump gas at those power levels and only 5400 to 5500 rpms. If I wound it to 6k it would have been over 600 rwhp. So I got to thinking, and decided to put another pump inline, the one that came with the kit, wire everything in and make it work to provide more fuel, then put 60lb injectors in it. I ordered everything and put it all on, and then a new gas station opened and had this thing called E85. I had read about it and that it was going to be coming to more and more markets, and I also knew it had octane and lots of it. I had read up about it and thought the vert would be the best candidate for trying it out.
So I drove my car around with my buddy Mike in the car with me. We drove it until we were both sweatin bullets thinking we were going to run out of fuel. I pull into the station and and we fill it up with E85. I had written a tune for it, yeah at home while watching TV lol, and switched to that tune. I started it up and it sounded great. I took it out on the street, and we drove it around watching the wideband. Then I went back to the gas station, opened up the laptop, made some changes and then popped the chip back in, and off we went again. I did this until we were getting good a/f ratios part throttle and wide open throttle. I played with the idle, cruise, part throttle accel, etc until the car just runs like a stocker with E85. I like the smell of it too while it is running.

Re: Project Vert, outta control....

So I took it back to the dyno and made a few pulls on it. It went up to 585 and I let off at 5300 this time because, yep, it was going lean again. the fuel system was plenty good enough for a 450 hp street car, but when you couple E85's 25% more demand and nearly 600 hp, it just wasn't up to the task. I said screw it. I give up for now. I just drive it and make sure I shift before 5k. I knew the injectors were fine, it was the pump wasn't delivering enough. So the woman and I took off for a weekend trip with it. We stopped in Oxford on the way home and I snapped a few pics.
