Pulling the motor. Should I take the trans with it?

Well I'm gonna be pulling my motor out to swap it soon. Last time I did it I pulled the trans with it. What are you opinions of leaving the trans in the car and just pulling the motor? I have seen lots of pics of people just pulling the motor, but it looks like it would be a pain to get the input shaft lined up easily and the motor mounts lined up when putting the motor back in with the trans still sitting down there.

I pulled my engine by itself. Support it and unbolt it. Didn't have any problems removing it or putting it back in.

ive done 2 motor swaps within the last few months and it is easier to pull the trans attached to the motor and if you have a t45
leave it attached when you put it back in if you have a t5 take the trans off the bell housing put the motor in and then reattach
the trans

I've done it both ways, and i'd say pulling it and putting it in as one is much easier. I didn't have a hard time lining up my motor to get it into the input shaft, but i can see that it can be hard and i just got lucky. And, laying on your back trying to take a trans out sucks the pee pee.

Funny, I always do just the opposite. I pull them separate, and put them in together. :tongue3: Lots of ways to skin a cat I suppose.

+2

I just bench press the damn trans out of the car and then I can pull the motor with just the bell housing. alot easier since I can slide it forward, then go straight up, rather then a crazy angle that becomes a swinging fist of pain.
