I am thinking of putting some new quad shocks back on the Cobra and for some reason the local parts houses don't carry them nor does rockauto. Is there somewhere I could order some inexpensive OEM style quad shocks?

If you have the stock control arm on than you do need them. If not, the car will wheel hop badly. The stock control arms flex a little bit to allow a little suspension travel. The quad shocks dampen the resistance of the stock control arms. If you take the quad shocks off, than there is nothing to dampen the flex and you get wheel hop. The fix: Buy a set of aftermarket control arms (little more, if not the same price of OEM quad shocks). Aftermarket control arms will be better quality, liter, better handling on the road and the track, better traction at the drag strip and there is no need for the quad shocks. Fixed.

Just get a set of lowers and you wont need quads. You are spending the money anyhow.

True, I just figure for the little bit of money spent $70 or so on quads it couldn't hurt.

Explain why...
some people can get away with no quads some can,t. even if you get lowers its possible to still get wheel hop. i dont run them my rear end does not have brackets for them and i never got any wheel hop. stock lowers. best thing is to get better lower and try no quads if it work then your set if not put your quads back on. but if you dont drive agressively you prob wont b able to tell the diffrence. thats y i would toss them i dont push my car to much.

Not sure why people think that simply replacing control arms eliminates the need for quad shocks, or somehow remediates the "quadra-bind" rear suspension that the 1979-2004 Mustangs have. It doesn't.

I agree Paul. I maintained Quad shocks for as long as possible. I am looking into placing them on my car again, except my lowered stance makes it difficult with my fat rear wheels.

just spoke with "Chuck" at maximum motorsports...

he susggests running quad shocks.

He said ifyou car wheel hops, keep the quads. after install of aftermarket control arms, if no wheel hop is present, you *can* remove them.

he stated that wheel hop is cause by axle binding durring hard launches. The rubber bushings allow this to happen. the MM LCAs come with urthene bushings which help prevent this.

If you buy MM HD LCAs and you still wheel hop (even with quad shocks) he said the extreme duty have two spherical bushings to completely remove the urethane from the equasion.

Chuck is smart. I've talked to him a couple times on the phone, and in person at races.

MM motorsports' tech support/ customer support is the leading reason why i ***refuse*** to look at any other brand...

Agree. I don't buy anyone else's suspension, with the exception of K-members, because for my wimpy drivers I don't need an indestructible road-race K-member.

If I had another road racecar, it would have a MM K-member... but for my driver's, I usually just use D&D or PA Performance or similar. Nothing fancy.
