So, last night I acquired a '73 302 out of a Mustang. It's got everything, minus the carburetor, intake, cam, barrings, rings... I didn't pay for it, someone just brought it to me cause they thought it was cool and didn't wanna scrap it (friend works at a junkyard). I'm obviously not gonna do anything with it until I finish my car, but I'm just wondering what the fuck to do with it? If yall had a free 302 block/heads what would you do with it? Do yall think it'd be worth it to build it later on and put it in something? If so, what would you drop it in? Or sell it, for how much?

that was the beginning of the smog years, have you checked the part numbers? If they are 1973 parts they should start with "D3". If you can post the full part numbers from the heads, block, and intake I could give you some better ideas.

Nothing... sell it.. Anything is better than nothing. Its not a roller block its not worth saving. Unless its made in Mexico. im not sure if they did back then...

If you want a roller block liz, I can give you one. I'd check the date code on the heads, and see what they are. If they are junk 2bbl heads with the old smog ports, they are boat anchors. Either way, like I said, all you have to do is ask.

Liz, I agree with everyone that says this enginey would not be what you want on your car. With that being said, They could be valuable to someone else. I recently sold an old pair of windsor heads for $600 dollars (C90E). I sold the 4V carb off of the same car for $300. Don't guess, finding out for sure is too easy. Post the part numbers and we can find out what they are, and how much they are worth.

I have the shortblock from my old 5.0L sitting in our shed, greased and saran wrapped. I plan on using it in a "side project", someday...

I totally forgot about the engine until I went to get my toolbox out the barn today to paint it. It says "Heco in Mexico" or something like that on the block where the intake would go. The number on the block is "C8AM 6016 B". It's in really good shape, its coated in a lot of old oil so there's no rust or anything. I still have no idea what in the world I'm gonna do with it lol.

Sounds like a real mexican block. It's worth a decent chunk of change. Look at the heads and see what the casting numbers are :)

Thanks Steven :) I couldn't find any numbers on the heads, they're pretty disgusting, but I saw something that looked like "PoMoCo" or something?

Yes, keep looking. You have a 1968 Mexican block. They are desired because they had a higher Nickel content and were stronger than USA and Canadian blocks. If it isn't ruined it is worth good money. Chances your heads are too. Somebody somewhere is looking for your stuff to make their restoration numbers correct. The casting numbers for the heads should be in the valve train area. Keep looking, Post what you find!

Look for this "hump" at front of block also. Another indicator of a mexican block. Top left in this picture.

It's definitely a Mexican block, according to that website. How much do they normally sell for?

When I was searching I saw a huge range. Think the most I saw was ~$2000. Most were closer to $350-600. I have only heard of them and just did a little search on google after you posted "Heco in Mexico". I did not see many for sale as google was being a retard.
