You don't change your oil yourself?
From all the VW owners I've talked to, they all say they need a special synthetic that is very expensive. Whether that's a load of crap or not, I don't know, but I've heard it from a few different people, none of which had any relation to each other. Hell my step-sister had a 2000ish Passat, which costed her $80 for an oil change, for the same thing that would have ran me $30 if I was to take it somewhere to be done.

Oh I see.

Well I bet it would be much cheaper regardless of make/model to do it yourself. It only costs me about $30 each time using Mobil1 Synthetic and a Mobil1 filter.

yeah, it costs you $30 to do it yourself, and if you were to take it somewhere, it would cost you $30-35 depending on how many quarts they use. I paid someone to do mine when I needed my drain plug replaced because it needed to be done to replace the plug. I bought the stud and it's not like they were going to charge to pop a new plug in, and the entire bill came to $34. I pay $30 to change just on oil and a filter. $4 is a rather moot difference to really say it's that much cheaper, but to some people the extra $4 in pocket is worth it. I do it myself just for the fact of how easy it is. To many others, it's not so easy.

The reason I do it myself is because I don't trust any auto/mechanic shops, nor do I want anyone putting their hands on my car lol.

And like you said, to me it's very simple.

Wal-Mart is probably the best deal, but you have to watch out. A guy I know around here bought oil from Wal-Mart not that long ago, and it was already used. Someone had bought oil, changed it, filled the bottles back up with the waste oil and returned it to the store. Since Wal-Mart basically has an open-arms policy about returns, they never bothered to check that they were used, and put them right back on the shelf.

I pay about $22 for the 5 qt. container of Mobil 1 and about $8 for the Mobil 1 filter. I don't go to Mt. Dora though. That's too much of a drive.

Yea I don't drive there specifically for the oil, but my dad is in the area sometimes and he'll pick it up for me and i'll pay him back.

I think the only BMW that would be worth the headaches is a Z3/4. The new 1 series looks nice, but overall BMW really seemed to lose it's styling taste over the past few years.

knows I like the early 2000's 5-series. Not sure on the years, but I like them. Classy and a set of nice wheels can easily make them look sporty.

FTS - you have a random car obsession? Strange I had not noticed as you bounce between an el camino and was it an STI the next week? This week its a tacoma? Maybe we should start a pool to see what you want next week and make it interesting.

I don't get obsessions, but I do have a few cars I want to have. Right now, I want an 05-07 escape which is 100% do-able, I just have to find one, I really can't wait to have a nice, NEWER daily driver, never owned a true OBDII car before. As for cars I obsess on, I want to get a 3v S197 someday and throw a massive kenne bell on it, always a dream of mine. Another one is to find an old 69/70 mustang, restore it, and swap in a 5.0L EFI engine, much like the one in my car :).

oh. Well I usually run mobile 1 full synthetic in mine unless times are tight like now. So it costs me about 50 just to do it myself. If thats true, that really sucks because I've always wanted one. I just get deterred by the V'Dub crowd, they are a strange bunch. Another car I obsess about is the new hyundai genesis...its kind of like the poor mans G35, which I cant afford.

Genesis < 2011 V6 Mustang < 2011 5.0
