Old thread is old. So since I've recently purchased another SN i've come back to the interest in building a one off duck tail spoiler inspired by the E92 M3 cars decklids. It's super concaved, complex, and full of angles. Essentially I have to recreate a 3 dimensional shape out of thin air off a relatively rounded and flat stock decklid. However I have made progress by way of cardboard and a spare decklid. Sheet metal tomorrow hopefully will be tacked on and then shaped to create the most upper portion with the "Flip" and the complicated top edge.

It's not much to look at but it's important. I had to have some sort of line to start off, as just welding sheet metal and cutting as I pleased wouldn't result in a symmetrical one-off spoiler design. I started by finding center, marking it, then taking an appropriate sized piece of card board and tracing the outer edges shape that you see when you look straight down. Trimmed it, then squared it to the decklid in order to get a starting point. The center of the spoiler will be the most bent upwards portion. As it comes back to the edges of the decklid next to the quarters, it will cut back into the original lines of the car while also folding downward. This will be a simple bolt on decklid. Not touching the quarters for it. The illusion i'm trying to place is the look of a dovetail while integrating it into the body lines without it looking bulky or out of place. It will be a job thats for sure, but I have time on my side :) Thoughts/Comments/You hate me/You love me? Whatever is good with me.

Damn! Looks good to me! Throw the decklid back on and let's see how she looks. Haha definitely keep us updated on the project. One off body work always looks amazing and it looks like you're on the right track.

Thanks folks. It should be interested. Getting slightly detoured this morning with a potential project but I'll be back hopefully later this afternoon to mess with it.
