Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, so I figured I would start by posting a breakdown of my car.

I have a 2000 V6 Mustang with a 5-speed tranny, and after slowly modding it for the past four years, I have recently decided to build the car for road course racing such as SCCA events rather than traditional drag racing, which seems to be the norm for Mustang owners. The fact is, the Mustang was originally designed with road course racing in mind, not straightline. Specifically the Cobra R, which came with independent rear suspension. Some R owners replace the IR suspension with straight axles out of a GT so better suit drag racing. A friend of mine calls this "nonsense customs," and I don't quite get it myself. Why would you buy a car specifically designed for cornering and then build it to go in a straight line? Oh well enough about that. On with the motley...

Before the V8 guys jump on me for owning a V6, let me say that it was my choice to buy a V6 rather than a V8, mainly because GTs are a dime a dozen where I live, and well-performing V6s are unheard of, mainly because no one has the patience to build one capable of holding their on at a track. Believe me they can. The 3.8 liter is easily capable 650+ hp to the rear wheels. I don't plan on going that extreme with my HP, since any road course racer knows that more power isn't always the winning ingredient in that kind of competition. Since the SN95's stock suspension leaves a lot to be desired, alot of my focus has been on making the car handle better.

I have just recently got the power output about where I want it via a Delta Force Tuning Sniper tune. The main issue now is getting rid of Ford's el cheapo 7.5" rear axle with 3.27s and NO LSD. To remedy this, my next investment will be the axle assembly out of a GT, which will not only provide a 3.73 gear ratio, strengthened axles, an 8.8" rear end, positive traction, and axle dampers, but will drastically improve the meek little 6's acceleration and handling.

To date, in addition to the custom tune, I've installed an ebay cold air intake from Bomz Racing, MAC Long tube headers with a custom shorty Y-pipe, an axle-back canister exhaust, Accel Super Coil pack, Taylor Thundervolt 8.2 plug wires, NGK Iridium IX spark plugs, F1 Racing Stage II clutch, adjustable coilover suspension lowered 4", UPR adjustable caster/camber plates, and 18" FR500s 9.5" in front and 10" in the rear. I haven't had the car dynoed, but starting with 190 to the crank from Ford, I've estimated that it's probably up to 250 now. It doesn't sound like much to the muscle car owners, but as I said, power isn't everything in a corner. I'm shooting for the 300 mark, and from there focus mainly on swapping over to a full UPR setup including K-member, tubular control arms, coilovers with Tokico HP struts & shocks and Eibach springs, tubular rear upper/lower control arms, BBK strut tower brace and a Kenny Brown shock tower brace.

For the past three years, I've entered the car at Scrapin the Coast in Biloxi, MS.

That's about it for now. If you have any questions or comments, let me know :)

nice build. its good to see someone going away from the whole drag racing idea.
the car looks really good as well. just maybe a little too low for my taste.

get some videos of your car on the track when you have the chance!
im sure we'd all love to see the beast in action someday.

You don't need to justify having a V6, people who justify the car they own are the oness that doubt it. Have fun with it, there are many guys on the side with wicked V6s, there was one member, can't remember his name with an INSANE sixxer, I think it was turbo'd or something at had 400rwhp+ I think, but it's been awhile since I have seen him.

Welcome.

I used to road race the piss out of my v6 and made people wonder what exactly was under the hood...

Your best advantage is weight distribution and lighter weight compared to v8's. combine that with driver mod and you'll be an unstoppable pair.

Best of luck in your adventures =]

Thanks guys. It's nice to finally meet some fellow 'N95ers who understand the kind of build I"m going for. In response to vids of the car, I have a few vids on youtube, none on a track yet, ofcourse:

Exhaust clips: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wimtr3Jxw1U

These are numerous vids from my team, Distant Echoes:

Not all of them are specifically about my car, but hopefully you will enjoy them nonetheless.

I'll get a tuning vid up soon!

We have a number of v6 owners on here. Myself included. Good luck getting to 300 without forced induction lol.

Mine made 205, h/c/i and bored and stroked to 4.3 haha. Hoping the long tubes will help her out, but they won't squeeze 100 horse haha.

All for autoxing, I find itt more fun than drags, however, as already questioned, how can your car handle being so low, or do you raise it up for races?

Good start minus the go fast johnny in the back, but its already beeen mentioned

Wow, a refresher course is needed too. Mustangs were built a cheap sporty 2 door coupe originally, mustangs have never been about road courses. The Cobra R NEVER had a IRS, the only mustangs to date to have factory IRS are the 99/01/03/04 SVT cobras. And the reason why they swap the IRS out is A) SRAs are generally stronger and lighter (one of the reasons I chose mach 1 over cobra) and B) the IRS has a HUGE tendency to have bad wheel hop issues unless modified a bunch to correct it. Sorry man, but if you want Road coarse info, talk to ReplicaR, he knows his sh*t, he is arguably the most informed member here when it comes to the SN95 suspension.

Good plan. Road course is way funner than the strip, and the strip is fun!
Being a 6 you'll need a Terilingua sticker :)

Dal, I love you ;p

Rice_Slayer, it was actually just built as a family car, that's why the 64 1/2 came with just the straight six. Then they realized the potential the car had and dropped the 289 in, then progressed to 351, 427 etc.

For the record, 2000 Cobra R had the IRS (and 3.55s stock). Several of the owners swapped to a solid axle because of the crap design Ford used. You can make a solid 8.8 move better than the IRS if you know what you are doing.

Glad to see another road course V6. IMO it's much more fun that drag.

However, I wanna help you adjust your hp claim of 250 hp. Sorry, but there's not a chance you are close to that with the mods you listed. Tune (maybe +10), CAI (maybe +3-4) and exhaust (maybe +8). That gives you a little over 20 hp gain over stock, so about 180-190 rwhp (210 flywheel). It's true power doesn't mean as much on a road course, but you'll still want some to get you up and out of the corners. 300-350 rwhp is a good goal.

Also, you dropped it too far to maintain good front geometry (unless you've got something other than the factory shape K member under it and some major steer rack mods). Take it down to about 2" lower than stock. Also, you have coilovers now but your plans are to go with Eibach springs and Tokico Blues later? I'd go something more aggressive than the Blues if you want to hold well on a track corner. What dampers do you have currently?

I like the 8.8 plans. 3.55 or 3.73 will be good choices. I kept the 7.5 under mine with an Eaton unit to hold the power. If I did it again, I'd go 8.8 and 5 link from Steeda.

You didn't list a brake set up. Probably the first mod I'd do on a track car. What are your plans for that?

I wouldn't say 180-190 rwhp Id say maybe 160-170 cause g36 Monkey has a built 4.3 Stroker making 205 at the tire so his cold air kit exhuast and a tune isn't going to produce that much.
