at 70mph on the freeway i stay further away then 2 car lengths, lol! thats just safe driving right there!

follow this golden rule, 1 car length for every 10mph your driving....keep good distance and you wont get your nose all chipped up!
70 mph = 7 car lengths? If I leave more than 3 someone is filling in one of those here. At 70 I do try to keep at least 4-6.

yea its like that here too, lol. someone always tries to squeeze their fat ass in where they see some empty space, lol!

and this isnt something i do in my 94 buick, but while in my mustang if someone squeezes in a gap i just back off of them too, or even change lanes. its not always possible to have no vehicle directly in front of you, but if you are aware of the fact that this alone is the cause of all the rock chips in your nice paint. i say do what i do. keep enough distance.

this is the one and only reason for all the ugly chips all over front bumpers.

i've had 5 new paint jobs on a variety of vehicles and all went years with not a single chip in the bumper. YEARS!!
my best friend has a body dropped and bagged tb, and when he use to show it he hated the front bumper cause of all the chips. i drilled him about this and he admits that its an awesome difference in his newly painted tb. no chips :)

i'll snap an up close pic today of mine after i've driven to 2 different states, all highway, cleveland where my family lives. most would already have several chips at this point. i have ZERO

Given that a new bumper for a SN95 is about $200 through American Muscle, its probably easier to just buy a new one when it gets bad enough and have a local guy paint it. Mine is so chewed up from years of daily driving that I'm going with a new hood and bumper, get it shot (or shoot it myself) and keep the originals for later on. I can't afford a complete paint job but doing a couple of front peices like that should be ok.

I had a 2009 Accord where literally, a rock put a 3" gash in the bottom of the bumper cover, and it looked like someone had taken a scalding hot curling iron and burned it into the plastic.

Stuff's gonna happen, better off just driving your car and avoiding it where possible and repairing as needed.

my bumper is a little more than $200, like triple more, lol. and having it repainted is about $350-$500 at the shop i go to. i think i will just stick to my simple method and save my $1,000. you guys can continue to disagree and tailgate if and when you feel like it. i just thought those who actually care more about keeping their ride looking good then getting to ride someones ass would see where i'm coming from and give this a shot their self. $$ dont grow on trees, lol!

lol Tony!

I drive "aggressively" until I get in front of all the people in front of me. Then I set my pace to be right with all of them, just up in a clearing a head. Works like a charm.

I'm ocd like you cannot believe, and I hate it when I look at my front end all chipped up. However, cars are made to be driven, just like guitars are meant to be played. Repair them when they get jacked up, otherwise you'll make yourself nuts trying to be uber anal all the time.

i'm all down for keeping it chip free but i'm not about to alter the fun of driving the car. maybe for someone who doesn't have any go-fast goodies its easier to stay out of the skinny pedal

why do people assume because my car is custom on the exterior that i havent touched the motor, lol! and why the fuuk does this thread have to turn into gay ass disagreement between me and and strictly motor puds, lol! if ya dont give a fuuk how your car looks then why the fuuk even open the dam thread?

what just to say these car arent meant to look nice but just go fast, lmao! fuuk that cause i have no interest in a fast bucket, lol! alter the way you drive, lmao really? you have to alter the way you drive to not tailgate????

i go 65-70mph on the freeway (which is realy the only time rock chips happen) and dont have to fn alter the way i drive, lol! i just dont fuukin tailgate and let my front bumper, hood...etc get all f'd up.

Those guys either drive their cars with the I'll repaint mentality or they don't "drive". Same as the crowd you've found in here. You're the one that keeps coming up with a longer post after someone says they'll just drive it. Just let them not take your advice and move on.
