Ok I got a 96 mustang gt pretty much stock other than cat deletes and a h pipe. It has been a great car not really alot of problems untill the other day when I was driving home and turned on the A/c for the 1st time this year and the car kinda loss its balls it would kinda of jerk real hard and loose power and not like what im use to in just power loss from a/c running. So i shut the a/c off and back to normal driving. Well today I was drivin and it loss power without me touching the a/c it just kinda has no push. runs good at idle but u try to floor it even with it setting steal it just want rev above like 3k and back fires hard when trying to rev over 3k kinda like a fuel cut. Any thoughts??

Note to add the car has allways had a couple turns starting for the last 3 years but fuel pump has never just went out. I can still crank it now after it turns over a little bit so would this be that my fuel pump is getting weaker and want push the fuel needed to rev up high? And would it explain the reaspon the car had the problem the other day when i turned on the a/c it might have drew more fuel?

Are would this be something like a maf or tps problem?

as he said it could be a bunch of things. When my TPS was having issues it did something similar and just popped up out of nowhere. It is easy enough to test the tps with a voltmeter to find out and it is cheap/easy to replace if needed. You can test the fuel pressure/pump by adding a pressure gauge on the schrader valve on the fuel line to confirm the pump is working correctly. might not be a bad idea just to see if you can pull some codes from the ECU and also just do a quick look-over on your vac lines to ensure they are all still connected and not leakin.

well I replaced the fuel pump today and that gets rid of 1 option. I now need to get a code puller and find out what codes its throwing other than the exh code that its been throwing

did you check the fuel pressure or just throw a part at it? Thowing parts gets expensive pretty fast....

yea it does. I just threw a part at it. I plan to just go ahead and replace fuel reg tommorow and then look into getting some coil packs mabye. I cleaned maf today so I will just keep at it the worse that can happen is I spend money on parts that might go out some day later date now lol!

I'm having the same exact issue with my car right now... Lol, But just found out that since I have a cracked intake manifold there was coolant around the spark plugs. Try and take a look at the spark plugs and wires. I thought it was a fuel issue too but hopefully, for me, the coolant leak is my problem... I'll find out when I drive it tomorrow.

I just cleaned maf and replaced coilpacks and fpr. But what rain man said was interesting. Like how did u know there was water there? if I pull up a spark plug are wires what should I be looking for? considering the motor gets so hot it should burn off most water unless its a boat load.

Well... I've had a pin hole in the side of one of my wires on another car I had that caused grounding to the block and didn't get spark to the plug... But I'm still having issues with my car doing the same exact thing yours is. I guess it wasn't the coolant that I found, I thought for sure that that was it. I guess I'm gonna keep digging and try and find a problem. I just don't want to throw money at it til it goes away haha. A couple other people on other forums said it could be the EVAP canister purge valve, but I replaced that and it didn't seem to effect it.

You ever figure out the problem? I still haven't, I ordered new spark plug wires just to see it it was my problem. The wire going to the first cylinder on the pass. side of the engine, which is the shortest wire, was measuring something like 150M ohms when the rest of the wires, even the longest ones were measuring like 120K ohms. The resistance on the short wire might be my problem and since I've been needing new wires since I bought the car, thanks to the previous owners squirrel that was living in the engine compartment chewing on the wires. They should be here Tuesday or Wednesday hopefully.

id look at wires and coil packs. since you have something squirrely going on, check the connectors and harness to coil packs. inspect the wiring in the passenger fender. theres a hole where the CAI is into the fender. the CCRM is in there also. that controls a 12v to many components. also, if you have surging a/c look into a A/c recharge/test. CCRM controls 12v signal to fuel pump, A/c, MAF and Coils. a few more components but i dont have the TSM in front of me at the moment.

I got the wires in today. Fixed my problem! I'm pretty happy now, it hasn't ran this great since I've bought it. I think the shortest wire was the problem must have had a short in one of the connectors or something.

Do those cars fire from a Crank position sensor? Really just guessing at this point. You need a Ford shop manuel and began going to the complete diagnoses step by step. Throwing parts at it is not really the answer, but with those codes I really would have thought coil packs.
