Well, in NC for all seniors to graduate, they have to do a senior project. I wrote my junior paper on the restoration, and modification of cars. My car, is gonna be my project. I really only have the choice of restoring a car, or building mine. Im gonna make it work, by restoring the performance of the car to meet modern day standards of a sports car. My goals are to make it lighter, more powerful (305 rwhp is my goal), handle better, and put out less emissions. I REALLY wanted to put a blower on it with the cash I was getting, but it was either build up this car, or rebuild a car I really didnt want anyway. Heres the list of stuff to do to meet my goals:

1) Bump up compression, so 93 octane fuel is required.
2) Port and polish PI heads (and the PI cams)
3) Port and polish PI intake manifold
4) long tube headers, catted X pipe
5) upper and lower control arms (plus the thing for the torque box)
6) subframe connecters
7) tubular K member
8) new shocks
9) new sway bars
10) tower braces
11) aluminium driveshaft
12) 3.90 gears
13) pullies
14) shave weight (remove sdm, dog bone, ect)

Thats my list so far. I know my car wont be at 305 rwhp with those mods. It would be nice, but it probaly wont happen. Any suggestions/comments would be great. Thanks

You left off cams. Do you want to stay N/A? If so shoot for 11-11.5 compression. THat and a set of Cushman motorsports stage II N/A cams woulld push you past 305 rwhp without a problem.

BTW nice choice on the catted H pipe, make sure to play that up in your report too, that HIgh performance and eviro friendly can go together.

Yeah, H X whatever, it has cat's.

I belevie MRT has a catted H for longtubes. It's technically for 99-up car's, but it'll fit.

A catted H for shorties would fit your car then, so I don't understand the problem?

Well, now we've hijacked this poor kid's thread, but...

He said all the H pipes he could find fit either shorties or were offroad. SO I sai MRT has a catted H for longtubes, and he said, I don't have longtubes either :hammer: So now I'm confused, but he should just start a new thread about where to find the pipe if he want's to know, because now we've robbed this one.

All highschool seniors have to do a senior project in NC. Its a requirement to get out of highschool. But I had put PI cams up there. I guess they arent really gonna do the job will they?

You'll be close, and of course they cost alot less, But I wouldn't expect more than 280 rwhp out of them.

What are they exact plans? N/A? auto or stick? Need to run cheap gas? Gonna drag race alot? Cruiser/all around car?

I'm guessing it's his only car so i'd assume pump gas with somewhat decent gas mileage (you can't get much worse)

Its a '98 GT 5 speed. The plan is, to make it compariable to modern sports cars. Not modern mustangs, but sports cars in general. It has to have the power NA that sports cars today have. I dont want the weight of some of the newer cars though, I wanna sit close to 3,000 pounds, MAYBE less. So basically, it has to be an all around car. It will see the strip alot, but it will also see alot of other stuff too. I wanna run like 93 octane gas to drive around on (helps emissions) but I wanna be able to put race gas in it for higher numbers.

if you want to put it to the 300rwhp go to powerheads.com and click on their PI headswap kit. Dalamar used this kit, the stage I kit says it will put down 65rwhp and the stage II kit says it puts down $110 then you got a choice of cams on top of it, plus its under $3k and i think you get a discount from them cause i think they are a sponsor here

Then you'll want the cam's, along with upgraded spring's. Modern car's run high C/R ratio's as well. I recommend you go for 11-11.5 to 1. Ovviously you'll want to gut the trunk, and get a good solid suspension under it. Maximum Motorsports, available through www.stangsuspensions.com would be the route to go there.

As for head's, Powerheads is crazy with their number's, but the quality is ok, just don't get their cams.

Better head's would be Foxlake or Modular Powerhouse.

You're looking at a budget of about 10k, to have a car worth less than 10k in the end, so consider that before you buy any part's.

Whats an estimate for a port and polish just on some PI heads I send off? Custom grind cams are REAL expensive, thats why Im kinda shying away from those.

Anywhere from 700 at Steen racing, up to about 2200 at a place like MPH or Renegade, (If you can even get ahold of Jim).

Custom cam's are only about 75 dollar's more than off the shelf grinds, unless you mean Comp cams etc being custom?

I'm not kidding when I say you need a budget of about 10k to hit your goals. I'm not being critical either, but you have to be methodical and realistic about these thing's.

If you are willing to put in a ton of work, you can find deals by scouring Craigslist, ebay, forums, buying part's ncars, etc.
