i'm thinking of doing a smog pump delete and wondering what everyone is doing about the metal tube that runs into the back of the heads? throwing plugs in or leaving it open? will the check engine light come on if I get rid of all that stuff? that metal line that goes to the heads is trashed and I bet its expensive to replace.

I know for a fact no egr will give you a check engine light. it has a connector electrical connector on the egr valve. there isn't any on the smog stuff though. i just hate looking at them and don't want it to go into limp mode

couple big bolts and some good sized washers and you're set. I've had mine done this way for well over a year now.

I had all of it off my 95 F150 with a built 302 when i lived in Athens and never got a CEL

If i move to a Non Emission state i am def taking all my stuff off. I think it looks much cleaner without it.

If you visit www.rjminjectiontech.com they sell the thermactor plugs for the back of the heads. It'll also come with loctite. You can get EGR delete kits from them as well along with the cap for the passenger side header bung. If you have the EGR tuned out of the ECM that'll get rid of the CEL. I didn't notice any change in performance or gas mileage, it's alot cleaner on that side now though.

I've been told capping off the EGR without disabling it through the computer will throw a CEL because the EGR is computer controlled. I wouldn't touch the EGR unless you're getting a tune. JMO.

well, i have no egr, or smog pump. I do get a check engine light from the egr. But other then that the car runs great. Instead of using bolts to block off my tubes that go to the back of the heads, i used heater caps from advanced auto parts. Lil rubber caps in the help section of ur auto parts store. Buy the bigger to mid sized ones and pop them on, seals fine, no leaks. :eek:ccasion14:

i just wanted to get rid of the mess and try cleaning it up a bit. doesn't effect the way the car runs at all. so as long a you don't mind a cel, i don't see a problem with getting rid of egr.(without getting it tuned out of your computer)

I did this on my stock motor when the smog pump seized. I just put some short bolts in the back of the heads with one flat washer and one lock washer. It has held up perfectly fine and it won't throw a CEL.
