Hey guys have a question for you.

I decided to use the nice day by detailing the car. After a search on the forum someone had suggested spraying engine degreaser on the engine
and hosing it down with a garden hose. So I covered up the distributor and belts. I sprayed engine degreaser on the intake manifold, along the top of the firewall, power steering pump, and air filter intake tube. lightly hosed it down and it came out perfect.

I dry off the engine with terry towels the best I could and figured it driving around will burn off the water/degreaser I missed. I drive it from redwood city to sacramento (roughly 130 miles) and everytime I floor it (or rev over 3K) the engine will blow horrible smelling back smoke. I knew it was from the engine because when id stop smoke would come out the hood and by the emergency brake. At first I thought it was coolant but the temp gauge read it was fine. So I let it cool down and check the radiator but it had enough coolant in there.

So What could the smoke be? I would think after 130 miles of driving would burn off the excess water/degreaser. If im cruising on the freeway it wont smoke but if I floor it, it will smoke like hell.

Any Ideas? Thanks

Black smoke?

Black is either fuel or carbon burning off from excess cylinder heat.

Probably a cylinder misfiring. How old are your plugs & wires?

Plugs and wires are less then a month old. This problem only came with the engine detail.

With the hood open and the engine running if you rev it you will see the smoke start forming on driver side bank, right around the spark plugs.
I tried cleaning that area the best I could but it still smokes like hell when you floor it.

I knew i should have left the engine alone ughh! :BangHead:

Well after some more cleaning and a deeper inspection I found out the dip stick tube wasnt connected, I was confused as to why it read no oil!

Could the smoke be coming from there? Im going to try reconnecting it in the morning.

Well it turned out to be oil spitting out from the hole on the block where the dipstick tube goes and it spit oil onto the headers. Got the dipstick tube back in but now I have a ruined header, the oil warped the header and now it has a leak!!! :angry4:
