Hello,

Yesterday my speedometer stopped working wile I was driving. The speedometer will stay at 50 no matter what speed I am going and won't move until I come to a stop then it will slowly drop to 0. As soon as I start to move the needle WI jump back up to 50. Everything else works in the interment cluster ( tachometer, odometer, trip). I have checked the connection at the Trans and it looked fine. Any suggestions on what you think may be the problem.

Thanks

I had a cluster do the exact same thing. Ended up having to find a good used cluster to replace it with.

I think the gears sometimes brake and quite working in the cluster. Its fairly inexpensive to purchase new speedometer gears and easy to do.

If it's going to 50mph and hangin then dropping it's not the gears. That's a resistance to ground issue in the cluster. Eventually it gets to where it will spike up to either 90ish or completely pegged.

thats the odometer.

the speedo is physically attached to the tach, but is its own separate component.

its likely bad.

Wanna sell your bad cluster?

I bought a cluster off of ebay, had the broken gear. Took that speedo stepper motor out and put it in my cluster. Mine would jump to 100mph, then ended up wrapping around and getting stuck behind the peg.
