Ok stupid question. I have the engine at TDC where should my rotor be facing on my dizzy. I know it is suppose to be towards the number 1 cylinder but are we talking in the 8-7 oclock position or 9 oclock position. I dont remember. Thanks guys. The car is almost ready to start.

It wont matter at this point... you just got to get it in there at some place and then re run your plug wires on the dizzy starting where #1 would be...

That being said, my number 1 plug wire is always about 1 o clock on every engine i build, personal preference I guess.

I was told that it needs to be pointing at #1 when its at tdc. I would rather have my #1 plug match with the #1 cylinder. I dont want my #1 plug on say my 8th cylinder.

What do you mean by that? Does the Cap have the wires labeled? if so then you will just need to stab it in with the rotor matching the correct labeled part on the cap for #1. And have the wires correspond to the correct cylinder after that by going through the firing order...

It doesnt have to point to number 1 at all... it can point anywhere you would like aslong as you are on TDC for 1 then run the first plug wire where the rotor is to cylinder 1.

find the #1 post on the distributor cap. use a sharpie and draw a line onto the distributor body, remove the cap, and extend that line into the body (inside the distributor)

you will now see where to actually line the rotor up to.
