After reading everyone else's build thread multiple times a day, I decided it was time to go ahead and make my own thread. I'll do the best I can to document everything up to this point, then update and take more pics as I go along in the future. On June 2, 2009, I started out with a very dirty (literally dirt, the car is MINT) 2001 DHG Bullitt which was completely stock save for a Magnaflow catback, Magnaflow catted-x, and an ebay CAI. I came home from school in Georgia after selling my '95 GT to this sitting in my driveway:

Before I even had the keys in my possession, I already had a short throw shifter, and an On-In-60 Bullitt Coin Delete on order:

IMG_1927.jpg

I washed, clayed, machine polished, and waxed her up the next day and shot some pics with JB, and my other buddy Steve:

img1864.jpg

The next round of mods was a Mach 1 chin spoiler, grill delete, and cutting the stock springs 1 coil all around:

Then I went back to school for my senior year, and during the year I really concentrated on school and getting a job so I didn't do much. I installed a sub and monoblock amp, tinted the windows and taillights, and installed smoked foglight housings and 6000k HID's in the HL's and fogs:

Project19-17-0938-1.jpg

I got tired of shredding through tires, so at this point I installed a set of Maximum Motorsports caster/camber plates.About a month later, I bought a set of 17x9 and 17x10.5 Anthracite Bullitts from American Muscle, and a set of 315 Sumi's for the rear, and a set of used 255 Ricken Raptors (GARBAGE) for the front:

IMG_6309.jpg

About a month later, I found a SICK deal on a set of 3k mile Bilstein HD's front and rear with MM front coilovers, so I bought them and installed them, leaving the stock Bullitt springs still cut 1 coil in the rear:

IMG_6315.jpg

Then the fun began...last fall, I found a guy from SVTP who wanted to straight trade his '03 Cobra IRS, exhaust, Bilstiens, Intrax springs, etc, for my 24k mile stock Bullitt rear...no brainer.Unfortunately I didn't get any pics during the swap, but the IRS included:New carrierLower mile (20k) halfshafts,FMS solid shim kitFRPP 4:10 gearsBilletflow IRS brace80k mi '03 Cobra Bilstein shocksIntrax lowering springsPolished Magnaflow tailpipesetc.I only swapped tailpipes with the guy I traded with because he wanted to keep his Stingers which were welded to his flowtubes. He assured me the tailpipes would work with my SRA mufflers from my original Magnaflow catback, but they weren't even close. I bought a set of used Magnaflow mufflers from an IRS catback for $100 shipped, and sold mine for $125. The only other thing I had to buy to do the swap was a $29 adapter yolk that goes between the pinion flange and the rear of the driveshaft, which ended up being a wash moneywise since I sold the mufflers for more than I paid for the new ones.Pics from right after the swap:

I was VERY pleased with the difference in handling and ride quality from the swap, but I had the dreaded "Cobra Clunk" going on. My lovely girlfriend bought me MM urethane subframe bushings, carrier bushings (front and rear), and both removal tools for the bushings this past Christmas. My father got me a really nice Craftsman 1/2" drive torque wrench for Christmas also because he knew I was going to be doing the bushing swap.

I lost my job at the end of last Fall so projects stopped because of lack of funds, but I kept myself busy by working on fabricating a harness bar which I still haven't finished. I literally have an hour of welding left, get it powdercoated, and bolt it in. I've been so busy with my new job and moving to CT and everything that I haven't had much time. I also ran out of argon for the welder and haven't been to get any yet. Hopefully this will be finished this summer:

A few weeks ago, I got out the PC, and removed my tailpipes for polishing. Nothing better than freshly polished IRS pipes!!

That weekend, I also retinted my windows with better quality tint. The tint I put on last time only lasted about a year before it turned purple, so I went to my local tint shot and bought 30ft of Medico 30% tint and went to work!

A few weeks after that, I installed a Clarion VX400 double din head unit, Clarion external mic for the Bluetooth, and hidden wiring for my iPod so it stays in the glovebox:

This weekend I will be going home to my parents house where all the tools, jacks, and tranny jack for IRS is so I can FINALLY installed my MM IRS bushings. I ordered a Lubelocker gasket last week which is sitting in my room, and I need to still get gear oil, and the 9/16" bolts to install the IRS.I also ordered a set of dimpled and slotted zinc coated rotors from RotorPros, as well as a set of Hawk pads.Let the modding commence this weekend!! I'll be taking some progress pics as I go, and update the thread. Thanks for looking, enjoy!!

That's definitely a nice ride, but I bet the original owner would cringe if he knew what was going on lol.

Good work, look forward to more.

He actually LOVES what I've done to it. He's a gearhead like myself, but he never got any time to do anything besides the exhaust.

Re: Stprorolla49's 2001 DHG Bullitt Build Thread

Well, the weather was pretty shitty this weekend, so I only got a small window of time Saturday afternoon, and I decided to throw my new rotors and pads on since I wasn't going to have enough time to do the bushings. I installed RotorPros Silver Zinc coated dimpled and slotted rotors, front and rear, and Hawk Performance Ceramic pads. After a little finagling with the rear cailpers (not knowing they were twist in pistons), and a run to Autozone to rent the caliper compression tool, I finally got everything installed. Pretty simple job, only took a few hours. It would have been even less and I had the correct tool on hand before I took the brakes apart :violent1: Sorry for the cell phone pics, but I'm trying to bolster my thread a bit with more progress pics...enjoy!

I'll get some better pics hopefully next weekend once I clean the car up a bit. Not sure if I'll be able to do the bushings next weekend due to a busy weekend, but hopefully I'll get them done soon. The "Cobra Clunk" is really annoying :violent1:

Overall impressions of the brakes are great! They do stop much harder than before, and they don't squeak like my stock brakes did which I've read is a fairly common problem with stock Cobra/Bullitt brakes. The pads are a bit louder than the stock ones, probably due to the fact they are ceramic, but I think once they bed into the rotors a bit more, the noise will probably go away. I can't report on brake fade yet since I haven't had the car out to an auto-x event yet, but I'll update the small review once I do.

I've actually read that the aluminum diff bushings will actually make the cobra clunk worse, not sure if this is true, just something I read while doing research on what bushings to buy. It's a combination of so many things, mainly the 12mm front subframe bolts and the worn out old diff bushings that contribute the most, as well as the worn out rubber subframe bushings.

We'll see what happens, the added firmness of the better bushings is well worth the swap, IMO.

Hahaha, probably never at this fuckin rate. Probably in a few weeks, I can't afford to drive home anymore. I spend like $250 in gas over the last few weeks driving home. It'll probably be a few weeks cause I'm gonna come back and get my new tires mounted and get an alignment at Seabreeze. They wanted $150 to mount 4 tires here, and they "weren't too sure" if they could mount 315's...I think I'll take it to Vinnie for $80 and piece of mind.

Adding the bushings will be a nice update for sure, and might help to bring down the clunk if your diff and subframebushings are worn, but don't expect a smooth shifting IRS afterwards. I have all the anti-clunk mods, subframe connectors, all delrin bushings and alu diff bushings, bigger bolts. Still clunks.. I think I've read every single clunk thread on SVTP and some people seem to have really good luck with just the bushings. Others with gear swaps and tighter tollerances on the ring/pinion, other with swapping new OEM or aftermarket halfshafts. It's a combination of many things, that's for sure. Mine is play in the diff and halfshafts.
