Car: 1997 Gt-5-speed

Been having this problem for a few weeks. My clutch pedal has had a lot of play in it lately so I've been using my firewall adjuster and pulling back on the clutch pedal. So I thought it was either the clutch position switch or the ignition switch, but I replaced the clutch switch and the ignition switch is fine. All ground wires, wires to starter, and fuses have been checked. I let the car sit for a couple days after I replaced the clutch switch and it started up like nothing was wrong. Drove it for a week and pulled back on the clutch pedal yesterday and now it won't start. I know my clutch cable is stretching, but why won't it start, what am I missing?

BTW, I can push the car and pop the clutch in gear and it will start and runs fine.

Help!

TIA,
Mike

Sounds like your starter to me. I know, I just replaced mine, this morning. My car had plenty of juice and everything else was fine. It was fine and all of a sudden just wouldn't start at all. Turn the key, nothing happens. It's likely the solenoid, but they're attached, so replace the whole thing.

It doesn't turn over at all. I'm thinking its the starter too, since everything else is fine.

Thanks,

Mike

Yup, sounds like you need a new one.. Oh, and if you're doing it yourself or even paying someone... DON'T put that top bolt back in, lol.. trust me..

LISTEN to him.. the top bolt is in the weirdest and most difficult position to get to.. i left it out when i put in my LT's.. I ended up using a conjuction of a swivel and a bunch of extensions to get it all to work.. it was interesting to say the least

OMG yes. The first time my starter went out, was at night... and I couldn't fight with the bolt as i needed my car.. So i paid someone to do it real quick... Well this time, I had time to work on that bolt.. And yes.. I actually just used the right socket + extensions + ratchet to break it loose, then a whole diff combo to back the bolt it.. VERY INTERESTING..
