Egr = exhaust gas recirculation. It recirculates unbuurnt fuel out of ur exhaust back to ur intake. It helps your gas milage a good bit. Leave it there,

If you take it off it's likely you'll get a CEL

Mines out, It's pretty much useless other then griming your motor up with exhaust gasses and taking up space. All it will do is give you a CEL. But can be overrided with my tuner.

now I recently moved to a place that does not do smog inspections, would there be anything HP wise to gain by removing it? I have recently started cleaning up my engine bay and hate the way it looks.

Don't know the temp, but they're made of stainless steel I believe, just sand it down and polish it, maybe Shoot the valve with some high temp spray paint
