I was just wondering, other than the possible electrical differences (speedo, reverse light etc..) will a T-5 off of a 95 5.0 mate up to a 4.6 out of a 98GT ??

Interesting question. They are basically the same trans so it may be possible with a few changes and mods. im sure someone will have a better answer

I thought even the 5.0s needed a new bellhousing to run a tko or 3550, I knew they had aftermarkey bellhousings for tkos on 4.6's but thought the t5 needed one too. I still don't see why you'd want to a t5... they are weaker than the t45 anyway. Have you seen the main shaft in both? the t45 is huge compared to a stock t5.

Well the only reason I was asking is because I just scored a crashed a 98GT with auto trans for a really good price. I want to take my 5.0 out (dash with wiring, gas tank, complete front suspension etc.) and swap in the 4.6.

I know it's a sin yada yada yada but I have a 94 Cobra just sitting here with no motor and I figured this would be a great oppurtunity to finally build it and get a nice trans for the Cobra.

Honestly IMO the T-5 does suck (atleast with my experiences with them) I just figured since I already have a T-5 I'll just bolt it on to the 4.6 to keep cost down a bit, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen lol

How much do rebuilt or good used t45s run for anyway?

I've never had to buy a t45 so I'm not sure what a used one would go for, get one for the right year model tho, some of the 99-00 gts still had a t45 with an electric speedo setup on the transmission, which is different from the 96-98 t45s.
