So my T/O bearing has been making those chirp chirp sounds and I think It finally is about to give out. So I ordered a new one but the only thing im scarred about is that I might need a new clutch. What do you guys think?

Cause Ive heard that people who have a T/O bearing that goes out on them usually end up needing a clutch. Or that im already down there and my clutch is 3 or more years old...

3 years on a clutch can be nothing. Just cause your TO bearing is going out doesn't mean you need a clutch, they are notorious for squeaking on our cars. Mine literally squeaked for years before I tore it apart to replace it. make sure you put a quality one back in, too. None of the garbage that comes with a clutch kit.

Good move on getting the Ford TOB, its the only one that should be used anyway. When a clutch needs to be replaced the TOB is done at the same time just to be on the safe side in order to avoid having to remove the trans again if the TOB goes shortly after, its killing two birds with one stone, but when its just the TOB that goes you dont have to do the clutch at the same time. Its only the other way around.

Most people will replace the clutch as well since it is such a pain to pull the trans. The TO bearing going is very common and doesn't mean the clutch is on the way out.

Thats good news. The bad part is I dont have the time to do it..... and it costs 350 bucks in labor to bring it to a shop...

And that's the exact reason why people do the clutch at the same time, So you don't have to pay $350 twice

Its not like a clutch is all that common for letting go. If your not drag racing it and are not to hard on the car then don't waste your money on a new clutch especially if the one that's in there is well off.

It does not hurt to be proactive but replacing a $50 TOB when doing a clutch is much cheaper then replacing a $200+ clutch when just doing a $50 TOB

Oh and I called my stealership and they want 700 dollars to fix it.. I was like.... what? He said yeah, its 7 hours of labor. I went 7 Hours, are you talking about a clutch replacement or a T/O bearing.... He says, "They are the same thing" I laughed and said Thanks.... Then hung up.

Why laugh, it basically is the same thing. It would literally take you 10-20 minutes longer to do the entire clutch swap versus replacing just the TOB.

Because they quoted me 7 hours. Thats retarded. The other shop, although it is a Transmission shop, is doing it in 3 1/2 hours.

LOL ok the whole kit from CJ phony is 250 and is all Ford racing flywheel and all. Whenever doing a clutch always do a TO bearing period. You have to take the tranny off which is the same thing as getting to the clutch so flat rate time for taking off the tranny for either the clutch or the TO bearing is the same thats why you have the same quote for it. It will take you about 5 hours first time with a buddy to lift the car take off the driveshaft, starter, and mid pipe, take out bell housing bolts with supporting the tranny pull it straight back and lower it, change the TO and reverse it all.
Check your input shaft and then your pilot bearing with your finger if they move a lot then replace them both you already have it apart it will save you a bunch of time in the long run. Best bet get yourself a maunal for 23$ and look it all up. Most will show wear patterns and pictures of examples.

I agree that It would take maybe 5 hours at my house with jacks on jack stands. A transmission shop should be able to do this MUCH faster.

I would replace the clutch at the same time. Anytime i pull the trans, i replace the clutch.

Just grab a OEM Sachs clutch from o'rielly's

If you are going to go and take the clutch off make sure you look at your pressure plate and flywheel 99% of the time get your flywheel resurfaced if not replaced. Look at your wear on the clutch if its beefy still give it some love and throw it back in. If you have the cash upgrade but i do not recomend what most people do clutchs and get something way more superiour then your cars abilities. I dont care if you plan on beefing it unless its in the next few months dont do it. Your clutch is better the get worn then putting added stress on other items as your tranny and so forth. New Clutch 100-150 bucks new tranny 2k.. If your not going huge on performance i would seriously say the cj phony kit.. Its all ford spec and gives you everything also good for about 350-400 rwhp of grip. Plus you dont have to worry about materials that are in it being toxic or so forth and tolerances at a min not a max.

I already upgraded the Retainer. No grooves are worn into that. I got the harder one...
