I've got a buddy who's got a 1987 Mustang GT and is looking to get rid of the motor out of it the cars are real low miles car. the motors in great shape and I was just going to use the block and the heads are there anything special about the 87 five 0's? I haven't really decided if I wanted the boa it and put forged pistons in it and shoot for average compression. I was really thinking about throwing up nitrous to the motor and just really just taking my time in building this motor up. I guess my main question is weather to bore it and stroke it? And another thing I was thinking of was how the computer would like it? Its got a t4mo in it now. Any thoughts or advice in the direction would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't waste much money on a stock block build. The 87 5.0s should already have forged pistons. You could just put a cheap set of heads on it and a cam in it and spray it as is. The factory 5.0 blocks tend to split or crack above 400rwhp or so. The only plus the 87 engine has over your factory engine are the factory forged pistons.

Its around 500 when they split. You'll be fine with a stock block hci with spray for a long time if your fuel is adequate and timing is right with a shade cooler plug.

250 for the complete motor. I didn't know if they had the GT 40 heads on those cars? I was thinking about just running an E 303 cam with the performer heads and intake to match. I thought that the 87 motors had the same pistons that my 95 has. I guess that saves me a little money. what about girdling the mains and the oil galley? will that help strengthen the block or will it just break word mounts to the galley and in the mains?

Well I guess that's fine it just gives me an excuse to buy the Victor jr heads I've been drooling over. does anybody know if the pistons are forged? the morn more I think about it I think I'm just gonna take the bottom and out of it polish everything and put it back together. now the top end will be a different story. I think I'm going to go with a performer intake and a 75 or 70 mm throttle body. and then just throw wet kit on it. but I am really curious as to see if the pistons are forged or not?

First, you need to know how much money you have and how much power you can afford. Building N/A takes bucks.

If it is a cheap motor, get it and keep it as a spare.

Then spray the crap out of your motor in your car without any worry of blowing it. Like 200hp shot. And if it does shell. You have a running longblock you could throw back in it in 6 hrs.

400+ wheel horsepower is enough, and it wouldnt cost a thousand bucks.
