well as crazy as its ever going to get. lol. sooo..what are the odds of converting a convertable to a hardtop?? has it ever been done before? my top is absolutely garbage and has a lot of holes and i dont really want to buy a new one because its just a lot to take car of. haha. didnt plan on buying a conv. but came across a really good deal and went for it.

so what do you all think? what kinda of money are we talking about if it is even possible??? lol

thanks for the help in advance. and if it isnt possible, does anyone have any good links to some sites for new tops? preferably a whole new kit with a new frame and all because the hinges and everything are pretty beat up.

well, you should just buy a hardtop if you're thinking about this conversion lol. complete waste of time and money and hard work. it'd be cheaper just to buy a top.

i heard something a while back along the lines of ford selling hard tops for sn95's for about 7-900$ in base colors. which would be great! i would love to have a black hard top with the white car. my only other major concern is where i would be able to take it to get it fabricated on? and would i need any interior mods if i was able to complete this switch? like the rear seat or what not?

they sold hardtop convertibles with new mustangs... they were convertibles that were sold with the option of a removeable hardtop. is that what you heard?

^^ you should get one of those, weld the bottom down and make it into a targa top!

Just pick up another mustang instead of butchering one.

I'd just spring for another vert top. They don't require any more maintenance then a hard top. When you wax the car, condition the top. They will last 7-10 years easily if not totally neglected.

here is a site that might help where you can buy removable hard tops but its the same price as buying a new Softtop for the most part IMO you would be better just getting a new softtop

thats not a bad site! looks kinda off but doesnt look horrible. sad thing is they only have pictures of 99+:( so i emailed them about a 94-98

the main reason im considering this is because my CV top motor doesnt even work. i even replaced it with a brand NEW motor and it still didnt work:( and me and my brother couldnt figure out what else could be wrong with it for nothing. so he just unhooked the hydrualics and now i have to put it up and down by hand. which is rather easier then i thought, but who wants to look like a fool standing on there back seat putting the top up?:( lol. so i really done mind a regular CV, its just the whole motor thing that is really annoying and making me lean way more towards the hardtop.

thanks for all the help so far, keep the advice/opinions coming!

keep in mind that convertible chassis and coupe chassis all start on the same assembly line as the same chassis. it's simply a matter of getting a coupe donor, drilling out the spot welds deep behind the rear quarter panels, and welding onto your vert. there is a lot of stuff under the soft top related to its function that will need to be switched, rear seat, interior panels, etc. but it is possible.

check out my build thread for an insight into just how much work is involved to accurately swap a very simple panel like the front radiator support - stock for stock. if you own a welder, a torch, and a grinder, a lot of things are possible that 99% of people will say cannot be done. that doesn't mean it's worth the time or effort, though. generally, people who are capable of heavy fabrication such as this don't ask questions like this in threads, they post threads like "look, swapped my vert to a coupe!" no offense.

i remember one time someone wanted to mod their quarter windows to roll down like on a vert

i still think that'd be a really unique and awesome mod

you should do this, now...
