I want to do a wire tuck and shave/plug as much on my engine bay before reinstalling my engine and S/C but I'm working with a tight budget and towing/respraying engine bay/towing back home isn't in the plans right now. Do you guys think it would be a bad idea to paint the bay black until I have enough to do a complete respray of the car? For those of you who can't see my sig, my car is DFG

Call around to some parts stores that sell paint, we have a couple around here that do custom rattle cans that are an exact match of your car. You give them the color code and they will do a single stage put in rattle cans and once its buffed and polished it looks factory.

Duplicolor use to have it tho I Havent seen it in a bit. Ive got 2 webs sites saves on my pc at home that will make a costom spray can for you , i know one of them guarantees a good match. Matched my old vette really good when 2 paint shops said there was no way. If you want the info let me know.

I vote for leave it alone or paint it color of the car. I can't stand black engine compartments when the car is a different color. I have two like that now, both for sale, think they look crappy. jmho. If you were changing your car color to black, then I could see it. Also, if you rattle can it with black, when you get around to painting it with the car's color, the rattle can spray can lift and cause issues with the new paint. If you get the same color as the car in a rattle can, make sure it is a paint that is compatible with other types of topcoats.

I'll look into a DFG paint in a can, only reason I want paint it is I don't want to have a new looking shiny engine and drop it into a shitty looking bay

I think black would look horrible if it contrasted with a color such as laser red, yellow, blue etc. Since your car is already a dark color it wouldn't be that noticeable. I knew a guy who had a dark green f250 he painted the engine bay himself and it turned out great.
