so for the past couple days ive been hearing a loud whining noise coming from my tranny which ive assumed was my TOB. yesterday the noise changed to a grinding sound only when the clutch was in. then today my clutch pedal started slowly falling to the floor everytime i pressed it in. and then on the way home the clutch dropped altogether and i was stuck in gear. i barely made it home cruising in 2nd (thank god i only work a mile away). i managed to pull it into neutral and coast down my street while it made a consistant grinding sound. but im wondering what is to be expected when i drop the tranny? a bunch of pieces everywhere? or just one messed up TOB. possibly bent clutch forks? or a whole new clutch in my near future?

I just replaced my throwout bearing, clutch fork, and clutch not too long ago.
My throwout bearing failed on me at 60K miles and my clutch was showing signs of wear.
How many miles do you have on your car?
Sounds to me like your throwout bearing is failing because if your throwout bearing
is squeaking now it will turn into a high-pitched squeaking sound sooner or later and get worse.
Throwout bearing failure is a common issue with mustangs it's pretty much hit or miss
if it lasts or not.
Your clutch cable probably snapped if you had no function of your clutch.
If so only replace it with a Ford OEM clutch cable and consider a aftermarket adjustable
clutch quadrant and firewall adjuster.
Check the condition of your clutch fork as it could possibly be bent if so replace it.
Also if your clutch is really old or is showing signs of wear now would be a good time
to replace it with a stronger aftermarket clutch.

my car is a 96 with 120xxxish on it. ive come to the conclusion that its definitly the throwout bearing but im thinking more is wrong due to the grinding sound not just the high pitched squeeling. and as for the clutch cable i dont believe thats a problem i just think that because the release bearing wasnt functioning properly that it failed to work also. it has about 2 inches of clutch pedal til i hit the floor with it. im gonna tear a few things apart in the morning and diagnose the problem thoroughly

Take it apart and diagnose the problem you will not know for sure until you do.
You have double the mileage I have but good luck when you diagnose.
