I just resolved this same problem on my 95 gt.
I replaced everything, new balancer, fuel filter, plugs wires, cap rotor, seafoamed it, cleaned maf, etc etc. Nothing fixed it except for bringing the timing down do like 7*.
I pulled off the tb to clean it up, and what do you know, there was no gasket between the tb and the intake. And its not like the gasket was old and fell apart, both the tb and the intake were nice new shiny metal, like no gasket had EVER been there. This car has been in my family since new, and as far back as I can remember it's had a pinging issue. Not sure if the assembly plant missed the gasket when it was built or maybe the tb was removed and the gasket was forgotten...who knows.
I made a gasket, copper sprayed the crap out of it and bolted the tb back on. Took it for a drive and my pining was gone.
