replaced my timing chain and gears with a Comp cams set. but now the timing chain has absolutely no slack at all. is this normal for a new timing set?

My factory timing chain had about an inch of play.

Almost no slack is good, as there's no tensioner it needs to be tight, an inch of play is'nt too clever.

Yep, as long as its not extremely tight. You should have 1/8-1/4" of play with the new one. Your other one was just worn out.

Stock timing chains stretch, which is what yours did. Very good thing you changed yours.
