I had that problem with mine at 10 degrees! Did a full tuneup, new wires, & cleaned the MAF & it went away, will now start bumping the timing up a bit to see...but I am able to hit WOT anytime & as long as I want to...no pinging at all. Even bogging it down & extra throttle is no problem.

She's got 2 month old tune up stuff and a fresh re maned maf. It doesn't make sense especially when I have seen people run 16 on 93 it worries me a little.

12* on 87 shouldn't even ping. How many miles on the car? Wondering if there is carbon build-up in the combustion chamber. Why was the MAF changed? And can it be re-maned? I would pull one at a yard and clean and install it. It would be in your best interests to get a code reader. Otherwise lots of unnecessary guessing as to what underlying issues may be. They can be had for under $30 and are truly invaluable.

What plugs are you running? Whats the heat range? You may have gotten a shoddy batch of gas. 91 octane is pretty much piss IMO.

the car was pinging with timing at 10* on 89. car has 110,000 miles on it. i have access to a reader and i dont think anything is stored. i can scan it for shits and giggles tho. im running autolite 25's just what a stocker should have right? i got a replacement maf for free so i just threw it in since mine was acting up. didn't think it would be any different than a stock one?

try swapping the plugs to a colder heat range. You may also have a code stored that could cause the car to run a bit lean. eliminate the cheaper possibilities before you go throwing money out

No need for 24's on a stock motor at all.

Are you sure your timing is at 12*? Are you pulling the spout connector when you set it?

Yeah I pulled the spout and I have 0 marked on my dampener so I'm running the light up to 12 and setting it. The thing is it doesn't ping all the time. I'll pull codes today

Now it's surging under cruise. I dunno I'm about to scan it. Can being low on fuel cause surging?

No codes no info in the scanner what so ever. The brick says everything checks out good. This doesn't make sense. The car can't even run 87 on base timing. I ran a can of seafoam through the intake and now the pinging is consistent now rather than random.

One thing you might do is check the grounds. Particularly the battery to engine and chassis and engine to chassis (I believe there is one) and then the ecu to ground behind the passenger side kick panel. Grounds are often overlooked and yet they are critical for sensor functionality.

i didnt think we did but someone suggested it to me. i just took her out and no issues? wtf? she ran great actually. makes no sense... its gonna drive me nuts. no surge and plenty of ping free power. i doubt the seafoam did much. i sucked it through the vacuum port and it didnt even smoke. then i reved it hard a couple times and got two big clouds and thats it. then the drive home if i got on her she pinged. then i took her out tonight with no issues... im so confused.

Mine will ping when the water temp is up from sitting in traffic.
12* timing, 180* stat, 87 octane.
Did you unplug the Battery after you changed the maf?
The computer needs to relearn the new parameters afterward.

The battery has been unplugged many times since the maf has been changed. See your pinging on 87 octane where as I'm pinging on 91 at 12. I do have a 195 degree t stat tho. No pinging this morning on the way to work but it was 55 degrees outside. I don't understand I should be able to run even more timing on 91.

Still if you can run 12 on 87 then why can't I run it on 91 consistently?
