I want to paint my bezels back red and lightly tint the tail lights but my question is do you guys tint over the backup light ?? or just tape around it also do you have to lightly sand the lights or just clean and spray them and what did you use ,I would like to see a few pics both ways if possible

that light of tint looks really good. im thinking about tinting them some but its gonna be a PITA with the side ways bezzel not being separate from the rest of the light assembly.

spray on 2 light coats and shine a mini mag flashlight through the bulb hole and step back.
Or better yet take a pic after every coat with the light behind it

Yep, clearing them will definitely make them shine! Here's mine that I did with 3 light coats of Niteshades, wetsand w/ 1000 grit, 4 coats of acrylic lacquer clear, wetsand w/ 100 & 1500 grit, buff with Megs 105 and 205, both with white pad.

I also did Jon's tails the same way just without all the sanding because they came out so nice after being cleared. We just buffed them with some rubbing compound by hand and they came out awesome. This is also a good example of having the reverse light masked off.
