I am gonna be using VHT niteshade on my tail lights and I was just wondering what I was going to need to do to make them look glossy once they are finished.

My opinion is don't do it. I was driving behind somebody with smoked tails, and in the sun you can't see when the brake lights come on. Almost butholed the other car.

You will get the best finish by wet sanding as I did. But you'll need to go up to about 2500 grit.

You do not have to make them super dark to get the desired effect, there is still plenty of light out of mine.

I went to an auto paint supply store when I wanted to get the vht and when I asked for they guys there said it was crap. When I told them what I was doing they recomended a black candy paint and a good quality UV resistant clear. I used them 3 yrs ago on both the headlights and the tails and have not had an issue with them since.

Yeah I might go with something like that because I've heard a lot of negative things about VHT niteshade.

People think it is so hard to do and it's not. I used the VHT on mine. This is a before and after. I got rid of it. sure it might have looked good but i don't need to draw any attention to myself. My car when finished will do more then enough of that. I didn't even wet sand them in the last pic. I know if i would have wetsanded them they would have come out even nicer. I got rid of them a day or two after i did that.

I have used VHT on a number of cars and have yet to encounter any issues. Some of us are poor and don't have sprayers/compressors/extra money for real paint. Well, now I have a sprayer but my compressor can't keep up haha.

My best resuslts was a little 400 grit sanding to start, cleaning off, spraying VHT on, getting it to the desired darkness + matching the other. After that clear coated the heck out of it. Didnt wet sand because I'm lazy and didnt feel like buffing.

Then I put on honeycomb stickers because I'm a cool guy and that added 10 hp.

As you can see, not super dark because I didn't want them that way.
