So most of the time when my clutch is disengaded, there is a very loud and noticeable spinning high pitched squeek. Im almost sure this has to be my throughout bearing. How hard is is to install and how much. Do you have to drop the tranny to do this? Help will be appreciated here boys. t

Thanks,
Free

Yeah thats what I thought, thanks. So for someone who has never done this, probably not a good idea huh lol. How long would this job take for say a mechanic?

Take my advise here, the TO bearing is one of those part's you only want to replace with a Ford one, not a Spec HiPo, or Centerforce or anything else, just Ford.

Alright thanks guys... I will def. check into it. BUt what that dude was saying about changing out the clutch too... my car is just over 102k and I really dont know what clutch is in the car but it does feel like its kinda slipping a little bit or something of that matter. What would be a good clutch if I was to replace the old one? I have heard of brands like Centerforce, King Cobra, etc. Let me know. I dont really want a stiff as hell clutch lol, just something that is easy to drive but is a performance clutch as well. I do a lot of town driving and m clutch is pretty stiff right now.

The King Cobra clutch is pretty tough, but it is stiff. Spec clutches are even stiffer and work like a light switch. When I finally sacekd up and bought a Centerforce it made me sooo much happier to drive the car.

It's not hard to do. You just have to take your time. I did mine in about 14 hours total over a weekend. I could do in 6 hours now if I had to do it again.

If you have tools and patience you should totally try it yourself. It's pretty hard to mess up, the worst that will happen is it just won't work really.

I can put a TOB in a Stang in about 2 hours. King Cobra pedel effort is 40% less than stock. Whoever said that it was stiff never had one.

I said it, I did have one, and I even read the ad's that said it was lighter before I bought it. It's not. It does engage and disengage easier than the Spec clutches, which I also had, in stage I and stage III variant's.

+1. ive had the king cobra clutch in my car twice now and it is no where near "40% softer than stock". its stiffer than any other clutch in a mustang ive felt. its a really good clutch that puts up with all the abuse ive put it thru which is why i keep getting it. its finally starting to get a little too stiff so next time it goes i might get a centerforce to see what the difference is.

to the OP, i suggest you dont let the t/o bearing problem drag on. i had the same squeel that i thought was just the t/o bearing making noise so i put it in the back of my mind for a few months and ended up snapping the input bearing retainer (the part of the transmission that the t/o bearing rides on), which is only replaceable on 96-98 mustangs. 99+ has to buy a new bellhousing ($300+ instead of $50)

Pedal effort on the Centerforce is as easy as the stock clutch on my Jeep, which is super easy. Never slips either.

As to the TO bearing statement's, it can also chew into the input shaft. It's a pain to change, and adds up in cost, because you really might as well do the clutch and pressure plate too at the same time, and then some opt for a new flywheel, but if it's your transportation and can't be down, then it's a worthwhile investment to get out of the way over a weekend.

its easy enough to get it done in a weekend by yourself with basic hand tools, but its better if you get a friend to help you.

FWIW, you will end up using your body as a transmission jack, and the transmission is so much lighter once you drain the oil from it.

I had a Centerforce and Spec St. 1 and they both had a stiffer pedel than my King Cobra.

You can get a stock replacement clutch and to bearing from advance auto parts for under 100 bucks. seriously... if you are going to replace the to bearing you might as well do the clutch. the control arms can wait.

Well that is good, but i really dont think you guys understand how bad my ca's are. Guys, when I shift and gas it, the car tweaks right like its pulling, that when I let off, the car floats let hard. The arms are old and the bushings are shot...tried to get replacements but they woiuldnt fit without lathing them and i dont wanna mess with that.
