Re: Top fixed, looking for help!!!

I got the call they almost had it fixed. I live a hour away, so they factored that in. I was about 25 miles out and they called me back. They said they got the top on and fixed, but now the pass side door would not close unless you slightly rolled the window down.

We all know that I cannot see stuff when it's told to me. I must see it to understand it. I had no idea what they were talking about! I went on, and went to see it. Now I understand it, now must type it so y'all will!

My top is much, much tighter now, It looks how it should look, I think. The bows, I think, are just more pronounced, maybe. They just show out more. Before, the top over the pass 1/4 window did not really have a lot of slack in it. It is just much tighter fitting now. If the top is latched up the pass door hits the fabric, not allowing it to close. You have to lower the window about 1", then shut the door.

I lowered my top and it works like a charm though! With that new headliner, it really looks better! I had them put on brand new latches, too. I didn't want to go with used ones.

They were locking up the shop as soon I left there! They are going to think and mess with it Monday. I was hoping one of you might know something about it. I was hoping to call them and tell them. Thanks so much! I hope that came out right so you understood it!

I started her up to lower the top. Boy, I've been away too long. She sounded mean as hell though! I kind of fell in love all over again!

Re: Top fixed, now I need help though!!!

I just remembered there is a cable that runs along the top, or something. They are going to look in detail on if it needs to be repaired. That's all I remember about it. Thought this might mean something. Thanks!

Do you have Subframe connectors? It's probably not your top but instead, your frame. I have my original top and my frame started to twist. The top no longer aligned correctly. I have Kenny Brown Super Subs with the matrix brace. No problems since.

Re: Top fixed, now I need help though!!!

I do have SFC's! I never even thought of that!! How come my driver's side is perfect though? How can you fix it if it is that? I remembered something else the guy said. My top was never removed! They put it back 1/2 way, so they could replace that piece that goes along the sides. Sorry, I never knew what they were called. It bolts kind of by your side scoops area. It then bolts to the conv frame. The bows bolt to it, I think. I have no idea what that matrix brace is, too. I'll call them 1st thing and tell them about my SFC's though!

Once they tore it down, they thought the side parts were OK. I did need a new hydraulic cylinder on the pass side, I think. It would not let it raise, maybe lower. That might have been the prob.

I still am unsure if it is my SFC's, how do you repair that though. Thanks so much!!!

If your SFC's caused it, that would have happened all the time.

But, sometimes, SFC's get welded onto a car that's tweaked, either already, or was lifted on a two post lift, or jacks to install them, then the SFC's hold the car cockeyed after that.

Yeah, I did not get much out of that J.R., sorry! My mechanic has a lift that you drive on to. I not sure if he used that or not though! When he rolled my fenders back, he had it on that lift. He used jack stands to remove the wheel. Just came to me, I had him call me when it was on his lift so I could see the SFC's. It was on that drive on lift. It was sitting all squared/level.

I just thought up 1 other thing. Sorry if it does not make any sense to the normal brain!
My car was @ it's setting point, level, when the SFC's were welded on. Because it was, it should not have changed anything up, I don't think! He had my car sitting exactly how she sits regularly. I can understand if it was on jack stands. 1 wheel might be higher/lower. It was not though!

But that is why, how do you correct this? Those are welded on pretty good! Do you just cut off the welds, then work from there?

I'm certain it's more likely these guy's tweaked your top frame than welded your car cockeyed. But yes, if your car was cockeyed, you'd have to grind them off and start again.

Does the top frame mean to my conv one, or the real frame? It's from 2 different states, much less towns. Sorry, I'm just not very smart!! I just do not get how the SFC could be welded in cockeyed, still. My car was sitting normal when they were put on!

If it is this, I can just roll the windows down until I get them cut off. Thanks! I call them with this 1st thing! Appreciate it!

Top frame= convertible frame, I'm sure that's the problem, and not the subframes.

Now what? I am really confused now, sorry! How can this be? They never really took my top apart. I know this because it made no sense how that could be done! I was thinking SFC the whole time, my bad! How can this be fixed. They are looking @ it better Monday.

I understand it now I know what you meant. It's probably the top frame rather than my under body frame! Sorry, I'm so stupid!! I know I am, you can say it!

just thought of:
How come my driver side works perfectly? The pass looks great, but it just does not allow the door to fit under it.

If you already have subs then that's probably not the problem. You should be able to adjust the door. When mine kept going out of alignment I kept having Ford realign the door. That would work for awhile. Once I put on the subs it quit happening.

Re: Top fixed, now I need help though!!!

I keep a list of when I bought stuff in my Palm cell phone! My top messed up on 1/8. I bought my SFC's on 2/20. I guess it was during while it was broken! I could still close my door though. I am back to having no idea though. Will this effect it? I bought them while my top could not be taken back. My door still shut though. It was pretty close because one day I masking taped the gap up so I could wash it! I can't find that date! I just know it was OK then is all.

Sorry I go from topic to topic, and maybe back to it. I'm really trying.

Did I ever mention about that cable that runs along that side? If not, I meant to!

The worker there, not the owner, thought it might need a new one. They could just loosen it. My top is 100% fixed now! It is just now @ that body shop! The 1/4 windows were f'd up a long time ago. I took it back like the next day and showed them that they now raise about 1/6" too high! The f'ers said it was not their fault! Needless to say, I have not gone back there. You could lower them until they fit flush. I always 'wanted' to have it fixed, just never did though! It's there to be fixed now though. They will find out why my window is not working. They think it's either the motor or the switch! I'm pulling for the switch. They will also put on my black taillights! They said it will be a couple of days. They are extremely busy. I know it's in good hands though! Glad to see I did not have to deal with my SFC's! Thanks so much!!
