top speed limit...

I know the GT's that came with 16's have a limit of 120(know that for a fact, lol),
but whats the limit for the 17' GT's??? Also, why is the limit lower, my guess is the
tires came with a lower speed rating. I dunno tho

yea in my 98 when i hit 120 its like hittin a freakin wall, lmao.
ure pullin and pullin and then boom, lol. its crazy how much i
actually feel. haha. almost like the car hit the brakes. i know
its just cutting cylinders tho.

you mean the car wont go faster than 145???? or are you saying the display on the speedo the max speed is 145.....that cant be right, GT's have a 150 speedo?

My gt came with 16's and I have had it over 120 ::) (in mexico once I hit 135 or so :eek:uttahere:)

I'm pretty sure the tire size is not the determining factor in the top speed limiter.

i've had my speedo pegged (shhhhhhh) and the car was fine.. i did turn off the speed limiter with the predator though >:D But then again my speedo is off due to the gear :hammer:

Speed Rating

In Europe, where selected highways do not have speed limits and high speed driving is permitted, speed ratings were established to match the speed capability of tires with the top speed capability of the vehicles to which they are applied. Speed ratings are established in kilometers per hour and subsequently converted to miles per hour (which explains why speed ratings appear established at "unusual" mile per hour increments). Despite the tire manufacturer's ability to manufacturer tires capable of high speeds, none of them recommend the use of their products in excess of legal speed limits.

17 inch tires: While a Z-speed rating still often appears in the tire size designation of tires, such as 225/50ZR16 91W, the Z in the size signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph ; the W in the service description indicates the tire's 168 mph maximum speed.
So basically the factory tires (17's) are rated at up to 168mph.

16 inch tires: Mustangs with the 16's (yuk) were rated at up to 130mph.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. The governor built into the ECU doesn't care what size tires you have.

I doubt there is a difference in the ECU top-speed limiter between, say, a 1995 GT with 16" rims or a 1995 GT with 17" rims. Does that make sense? There may be a difference between the V6 and V8 models though.

that being said... ours never had the governor turned on :dunno: ive been up to 135 more than once and am a member of the Texas and Oklahoma 100 mile an hour club ;D

well i dont know if thats exactly what its doing but it has the same feeling. not like a rev limiter, but like
the computer tells it "no more", lmao. im not makin much sense... :drunk:...but im sure yall have hit the
speed limiter before and now the feeling im talkin about.

ummm in my 96 ive gotten to like 145...
on stone stock everything...(well K&N FIPK)
mine is an auto dont think that'd make a diffrence tho :nonono:
