TPS reading at idle

Hello,

I was wondering if someone could tell me what the TPS position should read (while viewing PIDs)?

Thanks.

EDIT: The car I'm checking is an '04 3.9L/auto.

Thank you for the reply.

Do you happen to know what PID value exists at idle? I don't have access to the car. It's not throwing a TPS code so I assume it's baselining (RATCH function in old EEC-IV speak) ok. But when looking at PID's, it shows 20% throttle opening while idling (with the throttle blade totally closed - I popped the inlet tube to check it). I was puzzled by the 20% reading.

Thanks for the heads-up on that forum - I hadn't been there before. :)

I thought about it some more and think I've got it figured (it's so simple). The TPS was likely sitting at about 1.0V. The reader probably calculates the TPS opening percentage by dividing the TPS output by the VREF (5.0V). 1.0/5.0 is 20%.

I was looking at the screen showing 20%, only had the idea of the closed butterfly in my mind, and was not thinking about the voltage aspect of the situation. DUH.

Thank you again for the replies. They were much appreciated. :icon_salut:

no problem.

it is pretty nice to have a question that is more technical than "is this $70 Cold Air Intake gonna give me 100hp?"

that was exaggerated by the way lol

I hope that's exaggerated... My CAI only gave me 98 extra horsepower...

I shoot for 0.99 to 0.95 volts. I also look at the idle air motor duty cycle and try to get that close to 50%. If I have to lower the voltage ie close the blade to get the idle air duty cycle up I do that.
