Hey Matt, you got a plasma cutter? how you gonna remove the strut towers?
I tried drilling out mine, but there's a ton of spot welds, and it still stuck. So I cut it out.

BTW, your garage is super clean...

No plasma cutter. I will be drilling out the spot welds, unless my welder comes in and cuts it out. But I am not asking him to do that, I need to do as much as I can on my own to keep the bill down. I hope to be cutting them out next weekend.

cool! you could use a cut-off wheel for the stubborn parts.
without the thicker tower material in there, the sides are pretty flimsy.
I'll be interested to see yours. (car) lol.

The cordless drill, cut off wheel, and the sawzall will be my best friend the next couple weeks.

Made some progress today. Not nearly as much as I would have liked. The engine compartment is now completely empty, other than the steering box and heater drive motor. We removed the hood, Master cylinder, all brake lines, fuel pedal, cross member, monte carlo bar, and export brace. Before I could start to remove the shock towers we had to get the car as level as we could, that took quite a bit of time. Them my dads sawzall shit the bed. I had to use a cut off wheel. It worked good. It made a nice clean cut, but my air compressor did not have the volume of air needed to run the cut off wheel at proper speeds. So I have 1 shock tower 3/4 of the way out. I was going to go back and finnish taking it out, but I had some other issues I had to deal with that were non-car related. But I do have some updated pics.

The Shock towers are now out of the car. Next week I hope to be getting the crossmember welded in. i will be adding pics in a little while. Now that the shock towers are gone, you could fit a Mack truck in the engine compartment.

It really is amazing how much room is in the engine bay with no shock towers in the car.

Awesome. SLA suspension > MacPherson Strut

I've always wanted to do a SLA mustang and cut out the strut towers. I imagine a big block would fit nicely in there. :)

That car is going to rule.

Awesome Matt! Glad to see some progress :thumb:

Thanks. The next step is to get the front crossmember welded in. This is progressing along pretty good.

Have you figured out whether or not you'll be able to use the blower?

The blower is not the problem, the alternator is. I will find out when we sit the engine in.

Today I cut out the steering shaft and removed the steering box. I also set in the new front crossmember for the welder to weld in place tomarrow. He will also be welding in the sub frame connectors tomarrow. I will get some pics up on sunday night.
