Haven’t taken any pictures but today I got a bunch of stuff wrapped up. Then installed the Holley terminator x max and fired it up.

Only to find the valves clattering. So I have to do some digging tomorrow.

I pulled the oil pump this morning and put a thicker o-ring on the pickup tube. It still clattered. I let it run for a little bit with the rocker cover off and it wasn’t getting any oil through the push rods, then as it sat and idled, some of them started showing oil and I think the rattling calmed down.

I’m going to try to run it and see if it clears up.

Pulled the oil pump and swapped the pickup tube o-ring with a thicker one. It made no difference in the noise, so I pulled a rocker cover and ran it. There was no oil coming up through the push rods while running, I let it idle more and oil started showing. So I think the lifters just didn’t want to prime up.

Changed the oil pressure sensor and now it’s reading pressure, let it run some more and the engine is quieting down. So I took it for a short drive, everything is looking promising.

Still going! The brakes on the car wouldn’t work and were absolutely unsafe to drive with, so I started searching brake options. The general idea was that 4th gen f body (Camaro or firebird) was a pretty easy bolt in upgrade, minimal aftermarket parts needed. So I set out looking for rear brakes.

I found a whole car! lol. Paid $400 for the whole thing and I get all the parts I need, front and rear brakes, and the master cylinder.


The next day, I started tearing things apart.


I found out I had a bad axle bearing on the passenger side. In the mix of all this, I ended up having to cut the c-clip out with a dremel. Then had to find new spider gears, another axle, and then assemble everything. The rear brakes took two days to complete because of all the issues.

However, I was triumphant! FINALLY got the brakes installed. It still doesn’t stop like a race car, but it doesn’t feel unsafe anymore. The rear brakes were a huge upgrade.



Took it out for the first real drive. So far so good. No strange vibrations and it actually rides pretty good. I think I’m taking it out to the show tomorrow. So if everything works out, we have successfully made the goal!



Less than a month to complete a full, frame off restomod. I say complete loosely though, I still have to get a/c, a radio, and gauges installed.

We had the car out yesterday. We cruised around for a few hours and met up with a couple friends. Things went pretty well, but the right side of the engine is smoking pretty good, might be bad valve seals. And the alternator died yesterday, it was unknown age and miles. So I’m getting an alternator installed now and we are going to head back out in it today, smoking and everything.

I’ve been reading up on some guys that have done them, it doesn’t look too difficult to use those. We can use corvette c5 & c6 brakes, or even the brembo brakes that come on the new Camaros.

Sounds like the logical path of progression for a slick street rod ;-)

Funny that you bring this up way back when. I had a front wheel bearing go out so I’m changing all the bushings and steering up front. This includes spindles that use a corvette sealed wheel bearing.

Then, you guessed it, Cadillac ATS brembo calipers and c6 Z06 14” rotors. Front brakes should be killer.

Cool project! As a kid, my mom had the exact same car in all black exterior and interior with rally wheels and a 350 small block. She took me to school in it! I didn't realize how cool that car was at the time!

Thanks man. Yeah, these cars are seriously overlooked. It’s really an awesome car.

I’ve got a lot of restoring to do with this one and then build another frame and coyote swap it. But we are cruising it and enjoying it. The best part is, the whole family can fit.
