i decided to start collecting pieces to do the pi intake swap. i bought adapter plates from hps. i also am planning on putting all new hoses on the car at the same time. i was wondering if you need to buy the pi coolant tube or if you can just use heater hose instead? and does anyone by chance have the ford pn for the pi coolant tube?

Ha ha, I just got back from Summit.

You can use heater hose, just make sure it's really heater hose, the good high temp stuff.

J.R. - i've been wanting to go to summit but its a way longer drive. takes about an hour to get to jegs. i heard that summits showroom is huge. i really wanna check it out. so i guess ima get about 3 ft of automotive heater hose. i think im gonna grab a 180 t-stat too. i can't wait :dancing6:

I haven't been to Jeg's, but Summit is only roughly 30 minutes, so I prefer to deal with the idiots there than the idiots at Autozone, who will order my part from Summit and charge me more, lol.

If you ever have a reason though, definately go to Summit. That have rotating displays thatt he car's change on regularly, sometimes like Quadraduece, sometimes a local. THen they have various car's hanging from the ceiling, like Garlitt's first rear engine dragster, and one of Dale Jr.s car's. It's really neat. Plus you get to play with alot of stuff they have on display, and sit in various seats, etc. Good stuff for sure.

by the sounds of it you would be dissapointed when u got to jegs lol. jegs 11th ave. showroom is twice the size of a large gas station. they have display parts on shelves like a department store and stuff mounted on the wall but notheing big. if you are in columbus it would be worth the stop, but i wouldnt drive any more than an hour and a half to get there unless i had a really good reason.

well i got them from http://www.hiperformancesolutions.com/order_page.html . i have to say that i wasn't as impressed with it when i got it. i wish i had asked alot of questions before i ordered. it was made out of steel and was painted silver which made it appear more like aluminum in pictures i saw. i would rather have it made from aluminum for many reasons. also they say only the pi gaskets are needed but im also gonna use npi gaskets on the other side. they got around using 2 gaskets by applying some type of cardboard material to seal the npi side. imo cardboard like material won't seal air or coolant very well. it also has you use silicone which is the opposite of what i wanted to do. i admit that i didnt research them well, and im not saying don't go buy from them. its just not what i expected for my 100bucks. im not trying to bad mouth them its just know what your getting into before you just buy things. i learned my lesson. here are some pics.

I've only heard good about them but damn that looks like shit.... But i guess when the other "good" plates are like 300 and those were 100 i guess thats why. But on the other question i would just go ahead and by the ford coolant tube and do the pi coolant nipple swap and also while your at it .. .get a new pump if a lot of miles or even an electric is NICE

i'll have to call the local dealership and see how much i can pick up the tube for. i actually just replaced the water pump maybe 8000 miles ago, so i guess im a step ahead after i install all new hoses and a t-stat. after seeing the plates im pretty confident that i could cnc a pair at work after this school quarter. im taking a programing class for cnc this quarter, so maybe when im done i could write up a program and whittle a couple nice pairs out.

It would be a hot commodity everywhere, thos one's look like someone made them with a Dremel. You could also make them from wood or that foam composite stuff they use on CNC's to teach....

It wouldn't amke a performance difference since we run compsite intakes anyway, but tooling and production cost's would be dropped, which would lower our cost's.

if i made them, it would be out of aluminum more than likely. i'll have to price out material sometime. im just kinda busy now with school and work. i havent figured out how to make the transition or ramp from npi to pi. i may have to tinker around with a fouth axis(never done that) to get the results i want. it'll take some time to make a program since im a newbie to it. i would think that for 100-150 bucks or so a pair i could make a better quality cnc product. it may be too expensive for me to produce a bunch at once. i'll def. look into pricing stuff. no promises that it will happen.

I don't think you would need the fourth axis to do the transition, but you would need a true 3rd axis machine.

well we have 4th axis units i could bolt on to 1 of our 3axis machines. we have like 20k square foot facility full of milling and turning cnc machines. it would seem easy to just mill the npi side all the way through then tilt the part at like 45degrees or so and mill 1 side to mach pi gaskets to make the transition. i'll have to ask my dad what would be best
