Looking for options on the master cylinder. I would like to use the hydroboost out of my parts car (03Mach), but room is at a minimum. I was also thinking of going with a manual brake system, since there is no room for a vacuum assisted power booster. The car is pretty light and it will have 4 wheel disc brakes.

Don't beat up on me for a crappy looking engine bay. We still have to pull the engine back out and paint it.

This is what we are thinking of doing;

I am going to use the brake/clutch pedal assembly out of the Mach, my car was originally an automatic. We are thinking of flattening out the firewall and reenforcing it to accomodate the extra weight of the hydroboost system.. Then we are going to cut a access hole in the rear fender apron for the hydraulic lines. I plan on installing a peice of channel under the fender apron lip to strengthen up the fender aprons on both sides.

Since the access hole for the hydraulic lines would be where the hood hinges go, I would use the hood hinges off of the Mach.

I understand that this is a radical approach to the problem, but these engines were not designed for a vacuum assisted brake booster or they would have one. Where my engine sits, the master cylinder would need to be moved anyway. Plus I have these parts why not use them.

Also useing the clutch/brake pedal assembly out of the Mach cures the problem of clutch linkage. I am useing the trans out of the Mach, so all I will need to do is use the clutch cable.

All thoughts and opinions are welcome.

I would use all that I could out of the Mach. Even if it means you have to do some fabricating to get it to work. Its all new age tech that will help make the car drive and feel better.

I am useing everything possable. That is why I bought a parts car. Everything is there that is needed. We are going to start working this issue out when I get back from vacation. But I am open to sugestions.

move it up and over? get a smaller one? downshift and use the e-brake? real cars use parachutes to stop? throw it into reverse?

Matt How much did you pay for the wrecked Mach? And I'm sure you could find somewhere to put the master cylinder. Where theres a will theres a way.

what are you using as far as steering goes? the hydroboost is powered off the steering pump and connects into the rack. the mount on the '66 doesn't look quite nearly the same as the 96-04 hydroboost stuff. You could always cut out the section from the Mach and fit it into the '66, i think that would be fairly easy. you can also look into Maximum Motorsport's Manual brake kit that repositions the pedal for less pedal effort to stop the car. and you can use a 93 Cobra master cylinder as they are bigger than many of the others.

The front end kit came with a rack and pinion. The bottom hole in the pic is where the steering column goes through the fire wall. I just need to finish the steering modification, but I want to get the brakes set up first.

Apparently the 99-04 V-6 master cylinder has horizontal mounting bolts instead of vertical like on the Mach. Since that is the case I will be able to rotate the hydroboost 90* for better clearance.
