That IS for the rear defrost button. The MUSTANG was one of the, if not THE only convertibles at that ime which had a glass rear window and defroster. Mine has the glass with visible defrost wires and the switch where you indicate on the dash.My 1996 Mustang Gt convertible has a horizontal space that has a plastic cover over it.
