This was my Saturday...

It started out a bit gloomy in the morning, when my friend and I were headed to the junkyard to get various fasteners for my notch. There was mud and general swampiness everywhere, but we were undaunted.

I found a perfect, unsuspecting '87 Lincoln Mark VII LSC. It had a virgin 83,000 mile 5.0 HO in it, which I subsequently stripped of damn near every fastener in the engine. It was almost sad - I tore apart a perfectly good motor just so I could rob it of its bolts. However, I knew that it was for the greater good, as this is all part of restoring the notch. I was also able to get some 19 lb injectors off the Lincoln, which another friend needed for his car. Excellent.

Then, I was meandering through the yard when I happened upon the engine you see below. I immediately called a good friend of mine, snapped some pictures on my phone, and emailed them to him. Three hours later, my friend and I were driving away with this virtually complete engine, ECU, and mass air meter for the princely sum of $260. We delivered it to my good friend Mike, and all was well with the world.

Can anybody identify the motor in question? A gold star goes to the first person to get it right.

Sorry for the crappy pics, but they were snapped with my phone. What do you want from me? :hammer:

That appears to be a 2.3L ford turbo motor out of an old Thunderbird SC... Where's my Gold Star....lol :dancing6:

Edit: I gotta split the gold star with TRUUBLE. I was right about the turbo motor, but I did say it was out of a Super Coupe.

Bingo, it's a turbo 2.3 from a Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. (Not a super coupe, those were supercharged if memory serves...)

Gold star goes to 9psi98. O0 Dang, I thought this would be tougher for you guys. :p

Now the much more difficult question...

What year(s)? ???

The SC's were supercharged V6's. The Turbo Coupe's ran from 83' to 88'. 89' was the first year of the SC body style. I dated a girl that had one a long time ago...the only reason I know this crap about them.

Yep, they ran from '83 to '88, but this motor is unique. It only ran for two years - do you know which ones? It is also the most desirable.

Right on the money ForceFed, this was an '87. The intercooler and all that stuff was in the trunk. :) I believe the 87-88 were also the only ones with the serpentine belt setup.

Nice find. Take a 4cyl notchback and throw that thing in there. It would definitely be unique.

It's going in my friend's 1984 Mercury Capri RS - it came with a turbo 4 cylinder stock. Some friends of mine own a big 79-86 board, and it's one of their cars. :)
