What is the real differences between the 94-95 GT, and the 94-95 Cobra? The obvious ones are of course wheels, bumpers, stuff like that. But how much more power did they make? And what (if any) interior options did they have that you could not get on a GT? Just something I've always been curious about.

94/95 cobra- gt40 heads, cobra intake, 24lb injectors, corba wing, 13" brake rotors and 2 piston calipers, slightly larger rear calipers and rotors as well.
about 35-40 HP increase over the gt I think.

Doesn't look like a whole lot of difference really. Not like nowadays where there is a mile wide gap between cobra and GT.

But that article raises another question. How can I get my hands on a better computer that is more forgiving? For my 94 GT. Preferably one that has an OBD2 interface. Surely by now someone out there makes something like that for these cars.

If you want a OBD2 interface then you'll need to switch over to a exploder computer. But you'll also need the crank/cam sensor. and the coil packs.
There are some other stand alone computers out there though. but I'm not sure of the names.

Hardly anyone uses standalone because of how forgiving and tuneable our computers are. My buddy is using the new holley F.I. system though.

no difference in interior except white gauges and leather shift knob

As for interior options, Cobras only came with a tan or black interior. Mostly leather, very rare to find cloth. The gauges had a slightly different pattern for the tachometer and speedometer (which went to 160 in 20mph increments). The airbag on the steering wheel had "COBRA" letters instead of the running horse and all were leather-wrapped. The emergency brake handle was also leather-wrapped rather than the V6 & GT's plastic handle.

My car is a 94 model which are known for unforgiving computers. Plus I'd like a few more modern diagnostic and monitoring abilities that the 94 cars just didn't have.

Wonder if the e-brake handle is just a regular plastic handle wrapped in leather. If so that might be a nice upgrade. Even if it is subtle.

That is the basics although there are a LOT of little differences like COBRA stamped valve covers, COBRA on the brake booster, the interior has a different cluster and airbag, decklid for 94/95 Cobras is a one off version with no 3rd brake light (biggest tell I've ever seen as to whether a car is a real Cobra or Fobra since nobody EVER gets that part right). Really stupid stuff too that you'd never look for like the rear anti-moan brackets say Cobra where the GT ones are blank lol... There is other stuff too but I don't want to list it all.

But the big ones are the GT40 heads/intake and the 13" brakes. Oh, and the for real Crane 1.7 roller rockers installed from the factory. 240hp is underrated for these cars, they would make about that TO THE WHEELS in factory form. Most GTs will dyno about 195 in 5 speed trim so 45-50 rear wheel horsepower bump over the GT (not to mention it will respond to bolt ons MUCH better as the GT40 stuff can actually flow vs the restrictive trash are the E7s on the GT. Most "full bolt on" Cobras (gears/cai/longtubes/exhaust/pullies) with a custom tune are in the 260-270whp range easy. With an aftermarket cam it gets a little better but not super much as the stock Cobra cam (actually different and milder than the GT cam) is a very good match with the GT40s.

Is it worth it to get a Cobra vs a GT... really depends on the price, they can go for a premium where you can get a GT in really good shape for like $4k and the GT40 heads/intake are cheap and easy to install. I will say that most Cobras I've seen are in better shape than the GT just because the owners took better care of them but its not always the case. My 98GT is in better shape than almost any other SN95 I've ever seen and it started life as a lowly NPI 2V.

If the person tuning your car says you need a different computer so its easier... It's time to find a new tuner.

Yeah there is a lot of little stuff that came on the Cobras that most people don't really know about. idk if it was mentioned but even stuff like a lighter flywheel, underdrive pulleys, steel bearing retainer, slightly different T5 i think, they all had 3.08 gears excluding the R. Tons of little stuff.

Wonder what the price difference was back when the 94-95s were brand new. Say a fully loaded GT vs fully loaded cobra. Ford has always seemed a bit too proud of their stuff so I'm sure it was high.

IMO the biggest difference is you don't get one of THESE when you buy a GT!!
