Lots of cars (American muscle included) have to take it easy off the line if they're not running good tires.

When drag racing my convertible, I "launched" (if you could call it that LOL) at idle, short-shifted second, and then went WOT.

paul nailed it, i can think of quite a few reasons the good ole american muscle cars would have to drive around you. 60 foot times arent everything in the world

1/8 mile times are not 1/4 mile times.

So true...I beat a lot of cars in the 1/8th then they catch me at the 1000ft and trap nearly 10mph higher.

hmm?

The only cars that will be doing that is ricers dude.

Any american muslcle car shouldnt be playing catch up.

But the ricers with turbo 4 bangers are turds from a dig but fly once they get rolling...

I ran a civic that ran like 13.8 at 112 mph...I still beat him but like 10 feet after we crossed the finish line he flew by me.

Exactly...there are a lot of turbo 4's in my area. I run better 1/8th mile times but they catch me by the 1000ft and run a better 1/4 mile time.

To be honest. There are some things that you need to take into consideration. Is this your only source of transportation? Do you street race, if so, do you roll race or run from digs? If this is your only car, a high geared car will kinda suck with gas prices and everyday driving. If you want reliable and good times, go with a simple H/C/I set up. If you want some top end "roll racing" throw on a turbo kit and just up the fuel system and clutch. Run 8lbs of boost and call it a day. It will be reliable and still get good gas cause you ran run a lower gear and just don't get into boost all the time. I guess it's what you want.

I'm not denigrating anyone, I'm just saying your statement is not realistic. Making your average SN95 4.6 or 5.0 run 12s for $1300 is VERY far-fetched.

So the conversation started with MrNiceGuys comment about making a 2v run 12s for $1000. Then he re-stated to $1300.

Then I called BS.

Then you came back with guys buying 4 cyl notch fox cars and converting them to V8 5.0s and making them run 12s. WTF? Were you even following the conversation? :hammer:

This is funny.

Paul.

Yes I was following the conversation. And yes you can even get a SN95 car in the 12's cheap if you pick and choose the right parts and can do the work yourself. I never specified which Mustang I was talking about so my apologies there. Most guys around here run Foxes.

With some weight reduction and a gt40p junkyard setup and the occasional new piece, it would be possible, however thats not typical option taken by people nor do most have the experience to drive it like that.

Just adding to the fire...

you can make a 99-04 2v run 12s with the 1300 or w/e was stated

4.10s,Dr's,long tubes, tune with good driving can do 12s

One guy ran 12.7 with a 1.74 60 foot time with those mods basically...

I believe he had a JLT intake but mainly 4.10s, LT, dr's,not even sure if it was tuned but the car made 260 to the wheels and he drove the hell out of it.

A couple people have done it...

Ive stated before that I had a friend running 13.1-13.2s with 4.10s, bad ass tune, KN, on street tires, otherwise stock...I think he could have easily done 12s with a set of DR's.

I know it's the slowest fox ever, but my aod vert wouldn't run a 13 if it fell off the Empire of State building, let alone if it had to pull itself.

I know someone who cant get into the 14s with a AOD fox body, gutted, with 3.27s, and welds with slicks.

Ran 15.0s

Then he has some problems. gears, tires and a stall should be good for low 14's high 13's

The problem with "should be" is its a guess, pulled from your butt and too much time on internet forums, honestly. Most foxes are high 14 second car's. Dumping weight will only get you so far.

Justin, you could get 3.27's in some foxes.

power break and go, what else is there? As long as there are some decent tires, she should have a problem. It's kinda hard to break 3.27s loose past the launch.

auto 5.0's are just plain dogs until you put a solid stall and shift kit. Once you do there a hell of alot quicker. I don't understand where the hell you get high 14's either, because not only do all the 5.0 foxes i know around here run low 13's on some good rubber with a gear, shifter, and exhaust. Then theres the fella that took stock e7s and worked them as well as the intake, a 87' mustang cam which has less duration then most, and her degreed it. He's cutting 12.7s out of the car, and its a full weight. If you don't believe me, lookin in MM&FF, it's documented

i get high qrs from real STOCK 5.0s ive seen running for 15 years. good rubber, gears, headers, is not stock. and you guys seem to fail to realize the people driving for mm&ff are NOT your typical driver. not everyone that goes to the strip makes et their life, most people go for the hell of it to have fun
