Hey all,

Its been a while since I have posted anything. Now on to the Car stuff, on my Mustang the Rear End Bearings are whining pretty bad so my question is, if you have to replace the bearings would you just build the rear end while everything is out or would you just do a rebuild. My plan is to eventually have a quick street/strip car and I figure having a built rear end couldnt hurt any help would be great

Thanks
Chris

i had the same problem. completely rebuilt the entire thing. the only thing left stock was the axle housing.

it honestly depends on your wallet. you can do a simple rebuild if you are on a budget, or thrown in a set of gears for a couple hundred bucks. if you are rolling in the cash, fully-build it while you're there.

Im not Rolling in cash but I have been saving to do this incase I decided on the build, I was thinking same thing you did, just keep the housing, new axles, new Diff, new bearings, Stronger Diff cover, dont know if I would need a new Ring and Pinion there is a 3:73 in there now which the previous owner installed is there anything else I would need or so you have a list of the things you bought

cost me $2,100.00 (if i remember correctly. that was 3 or 4 years ago) to buy all the parts and professional install.

i waited to install the diffy cover tho. kept the stock one for quite a while. i can look up my recipt tomorrow for you.

SVO Gears
Moser 31 spline axles
Eaton Posi diffy
fluid + additive
bearings

eventually i got the axle girdle.

you don't need to build it. just rebuild, and stuff some 28 spline moser axles in there and you'll be cake. They are 30% stronger then stock. If you want to be a hero, then yea get the girdle, bad boy 31 spline carrier and some 31 spline axles. Honestly though for what you may be doing, its a waste of money. Look at what your trying to do with the car. I have a stock rear end to the max with stock axles and slicks and mines still together. So don't take a chance of torching it after you rebuild it and just get some 28's and some quality seals and bearings and you'll be fine.

good point duffy...

if you arent going to see 500 HP, just rebuild it.

i spoke with a guy at the track and he was running the eaton 31 spline diffy and it failed at ~750 RWHP.

Dint even bother with the girdle, unless you want to look cool, you may never use the car as that girdle will really gain what its meant to do.

+1 the girlde is actually a pain in the a**.... my gasket leaks, the drain plug leaks, you have to TQ the bolts to like, 4 ft pounds (i dont own a TQ wrench that goes that low, and my local sears doesnt sell one either. lol) plus to open the fill plug is a pain as well.

all these things are magnified when you lower the car as well.

Hmm, well the car is lowered already actually whats what I did Last year was full suspension upgrade

Just put a normal cover on it and call it a day. Its like the people who DD their car and dont use it for anything track wise and have over kill suspension upgrades or who have 31 splines with an auburn in there who never see a strip... Waste of money
