So we all, mostly.., know what looks good when it comes to a car. Yet if you ask any member, it will almost always vary, even slightly. This is the curse of individuality. It does however, allow for a fantastic chance for new ideas, and a vast difference, in say, the looks of an sn95, foxbody, and...f-body..
What I'm looking for is a common opinion as to what really looks nice and catches the attention of a non-car savvy person. What really makes those 4 and 5 year olds say, mommy look at that, or daddy buy me one of those! or what (aside from sound/exhaust) really will make people turn their heads after catching a glimpse.
Personally, I think its flashy. You know, a paintjob that shatters the sunlight all over the ground, mirrior like chrome, and *reasonable* sized rims to add a thicker look. I think people also like wide, henche camaros and corvettes, even the fortune kit for the rx7, but the sn95 lacks this (any fix?)
SO, theres my opinion (aka a*shole) but I was hoping to hear from some of you, many of you have been around trophy cars, some of you HAVE trophy cars; what really makes average joe pull a double take, and gather crowds at car shows?
(Looking for mainly cosmetic, but engine style is always great when popping the hood) :)

fat rear tires always help that wide look, you can even throw a spacer on there

Yeah, rims have always been a big eye catcher, i've noticed. But you always want the good attention...

If its a "big/expensive thing" rims/paint. If its a smaller cosmetic thing. Definitely new headlights.

Depends on the car, but you can never go wrong with a clean look.

Rims, paint quality and stance. The right combo always makes for a wow moment.

Something, like this......

Wheels and stance make the car....headlights are always eye catching, whether good or bad. But I think the stance can make or break the total look of the car.

My list:
Wheels
Stance
Hood
Hood Pins

Having a vert helps.

You need to have a balance of things. For some odd reason when we took my car out for a week to shake it down the response was awesome. People turning heads at lights... Little kids screaming... Guys walking up and asking questions.

There was bad attention to... Cars reving at me at lights, cops following me etc.

My car really doesent have much done as far as appearance is concerned. Sportlines, Cobra R's, Cobra R hood, Mach Lip, 98 Tails, No Spoiler...I was embarrassed driving around with an unpainted hood. But it does have a certain appeal to it.

I think as far as someone who is not very car savy...most of the time it's that race car look...fat tires and a rake. Someone who IS car savy...I think it's good body work and nice wheels.

making a car look as fast as it is. I think the problem with the 94-98 are the natural lines. they are sexy, but i've noticed a lot of aftermarket body parts are straight and cut, perfect for a new edge, but not the smooth curves of ours :(

The Mustang was built as a muscle car with a more rugged look. Most aftermarket for them does stick to that theme so it's a little difficult to get the sporty race look to it like you say.

The stripes on my Mustang provide a lot of attention from the average person and second glances are caught everywhere with it... But with that being said, it has nothing close to the attention that my Corvette gets because it was designed with the same aspect your talking about in this thread. Sporty, racey, sharp, and fast looking is what the average eye catches.

Just a comparison though. I still love my Mustang.
