Im undecided on what wheel size to run on my 97 Cobra.

This is a summer DD, no track on hard driving.

I want to fill out the rear wheelwells but dont want to throw a lot of crap on the quarter panels.

I would also like a 40-50,000 mile tire.

I was thinking 17x8 on the front and 17x9 on the rear.

If I go 17x9 all the way around, will the back still look narrow compared to the front?

If I go 17x9 and 17x10 with 255/40/17 and 275/40/17 will I get the look I want without kicking road debris all over the car?

I had my heart set on Mach I wheels, but they just dont look right on 94-98 cars, so now Im thinking 03 chrome Cobra wheels.

opinions?

Staggered wheels both cars. Rears 17x10 on one car, 18x10 on another. FR500 clones.

Will 18x9/10 with 265/285 35 18 allow me to keep the quad shocks with a 1.5 drop?

Better question would be why do you want to keep the quad shocks? They really serve no purpose on our cars. Buy a set of tubular or square frame rear lower control arms and you’ll be better off.

IF you keep it at 10-10.5, youre golden. If you want wider, you run into issues. If you are getting a mistake specific setup, its all figured out for you

I ran 19x11's with a 285 tire and never slung dirt on my quarters lol. Offset and backspacing is what you need to look into more than anything.

I bought a set of tubular control arms.

I think I decided on either the chrome or anthracite Bullitts.

Who makes the American Muscle wheels? Opinions on the quality, I have only ever bought Crager and American Racing.

I like the staggered look, but I would rather have 18x8 up front with 245/40/18s vs the 18x9 with 265/35/18. I looked at pics of the 94-98s with the 18x9 up front and thought they pushed out a bit to far for my liking. Plus, I like the taller tire. I will ask AM for a set of 18x8 and 18x10 if I buy from them.

AM is going to have Chinese made Reps. Same with LMR. Doesnt mean that theres anything wrong with it, but you do get what you paid for. If you can cough up the extra cash, go with a brand with a good reputation, but that would mean a non-mustang specific wheel, and some extra thinking on your part.

Actually Wheel Replicas our of Texas makes a lot of the replica wheels sold on AM and LMR. Unfortunately the quality is no better than Chinese.

If you choose chrome just be careful on how you maintain it.

I found a set of 04 oem Cobra rims with 275-40-17 tires. The Wheel says 17x9 26mm

Can I get away with running those on all four corners with a 1-1.5 drop?

Our cars can fit such fat tires that I hear 17x9 with 275 all the way around and it makes me think “why would you go so skinny?â€

But then I remember that the factories weren’t even that wide and just realize we’re spoiled by the fatness we can shove up in there!!!! Lol

My current 17x8 Bullitts with new 245/45/17s are going to my daughter for her 04 V6 coupe. Her car isnt a DD now, but the tires are way past due. She bought the car new.

Im on a budget for a few more months, we just moved into a new house and havent sold the old one yet, so Im paying x2 on everything

I like factory wheels, I like the look, finish and overall quality much better than aftermarket.

I can buy a set of 04 Cobra 17x9 +26 with 275/40/17s for $750. Nearly new tires.

A set of 2018 18x8 low gloss black with machined lip 5 spokes for $440. I would need spacers and tires, but they are pretty sweet wheels.

A set of 2018 19x8.5 polished 5 spokes with 255/40/19 tires for $950. Those are a bit tall and I still need spacers, but Im from the 60s and am a sucker for polished or chrome.

Im doing rear suspension this Saturday, be nice to have some new wheels to put on.

I bought the 17x9 chrome Cobras with new Kumho directional 275/40/17s.

Looks awesome, I have a 1in spacer coming Friday, I hope, to fatten up the rear a bit more. The first domino has fallen.

Now I cant stand those ugly ass calipers..........
