Well i just picked up a set of 99-00 GT wheels for fairly cheap because i can't afford anything new, and hate the '94-'95 ponies. I need tires for them. They're 17x8. Stock size is 245/45s. I don't want this size in the front because i want the front dropped a bit. So i was thinking about putting a 225/45 on the front with a 245/45 on the rear, or maybe even a 255/? on the back if it'll fit. Just wondering if these sizes will fit or if anyone has any suggestions.

I ran 245's on my 17x8's. I even ran them on my 17x9's. I just bought new tires just before I bought my Cobra R's. I had 245's on all 4.

If you want the front dropped.... Get some lowering springs and do it right.

I have 255's on stock rims now, they fit/look fine but in my opinion I wouldn't go out of my way to find them when 245's are so easy to get

lol. I'm on sportlines now. It's not a drop i want. It's a proper muscle car rake. I'm tired on mustang sitting lower in the back, and i'd prefer to not cut my front springs, nor buy adjustable LCAs yet. And until i can afford to buy a proper set of staggered wheels it's going to come from tires. From your sig "Get Money" it seems you could use a drop your damn self. Basically i just want to know if a 225 series is ok on these wheels. 225/45 i'm assuming is ok on 8" wide, but not sure completely.

A 225 will work fine on an 8" rim, if you go to a 225/45/17 it will be about .7" smaller diameter then a 245/45/17

Now you can combine that with a 255/45/17 on the rear which will be .3" larger diameter

Hardly a world of difference but possible

Actually, my car sits lower than what the picture looks, but that's something else

Well.... It will fit..

I have 235/45 series on the fronts now, and they seem to be ok... But only because i had to get tires and it was all they had...

I don't think it will completely give you the ''look'' you're going for though.. It may just even you out since you say you're rear is already lower than the front..

Yea it's not a huge difference, bit it's something. I think my car sits kinda funky because of the tires that are on the stock 16s now. I just needed a quick replacement for inspection and took the first and cheapest thing i could get. Which is like a 225/60 i think. Terrible handling, and looks pretty absurd.

So a 255 will fit on a 17x8? The difference between the 225/45 and the 255/45 is a full inch according to the tire size calc.

I'd do 255/40 in the front and 255/45 in the rear.

That'll give you an inch difference front to rear without messing up your speedo and without stretching a 225 tire onto an 8" wheel. Done.

I think i'm going to do 225/45 up front and 255/45 in the rear. Considering a 225/45 and 255/40 are almost exactly the same diameter. I'd prefer to save the cash too. Thanks for the responses guys.

I always ran 245/45/17 until i stepped up to a 255/45/17. I figure if Ford put it on a 17x8 wheel that i could and it would be fine and i couldn't be happier since i did.
