I am considering upgrading my heads and cam this summer. I have already added a ported cobra intake and tb, as well as BBK equal length shortys into a magnaflow catted-X pipe finishing with dynomax side exhaust and the motor is a freshly remanf 302 after the stock lost its main bearings. I would like to keep it reliable and as much of a DD as possible as there is not even a good track nearby. I would love to be able to smoke the local ricers if need be but first and formost I need to keep it runnin...... What heads/cam combination would you recomend for these requirements?

I am going to save up for what ever is the best thing to do. This car was originally owned by my mother and I am not going to sell it. Because of this I am willing to pay the price for the right stuff that will hold up...

So negating any kind of crazy race-only heads there is really no limit on $$

i see alot of afr 185s going around for like 1000 used. thats what i got you will just have to fly cut your pistons. not hard at all just takes a long time. might be a lil big but leaves room for improvement. could also find a used tfs cam for like 100 also used just look around.

I prefer AFR myself but any of the top aluminum heads will work. The best head for a 302/306 would be an AFR 165.

The only heads I don't like are patriot heads.

I am wanting to get something new, definitly aluminum. I don't beat on the car and only get on it every once and a while as there is always a cop around the corner from me somehow. I just want a bad ass 5.0 that I know can take the abuse and go when I need it to....

I thought 175's were better?

I have no problem buying used parts in some cases but I think that heads are better to buy new. Unless it is a friend or a family member selling them you don't know if its 200 miles or 200k. You also don't know if they did something stupid like not cool it well enough or give it enough oil for only 200 miles. I say this from experience as the last used heads I bought had a couple of holes cross-threaded which made for much more trouble then the money saved was worth....

TFS stage 1 and TFS twisted wedge heads are what I have and love them, but as said, AFRs heads are probably the best out there.

Trick Flow heads hands down. AFR's are sweet but If I had a choice between the two Id take the trick flows. Custom cam by Ed Curtis or Jay Allen is your best bet if your looking for the best combo

Either of the "big three" will work just fine. Edelbrock performer heads have solid specs and come with quality hardware and are the cheapest of the big three. If this car is going to remain a DD I would give Edelbrock's a looksy as well

afr heads are definetly not the best out there and i personally wouldn't make that mistake again....all i'm going to say is do your research and good luck

See that is why this post is on here is to find out from others experiences. Can you tell a little more about what happened to you? So far everyone says they are the stuff except you but you have owned a set so I would love to hear from you.
