whining noise

so recently i developed a whining noise, at first i though it was my idler pully but the other day i noticed it goes away when i push the clutch pedal? i barley have to touch the bedal and it goes away? im thinking maybe a clutch adjustment?

Most likely the throw out bearing is starting to fail.

yeah ive had the throwout bearing go out before it was rediculous, i might just go and replace the whole clutch

a King Cobra will be just fine. I would also check the pivot ball also while your down there and also the clutch fork. You can also check the input shaft from your tranny.

Centerforce also makes some good clutches.. I have a CF dual friction in my car, and love it, although the King Cobra is about the best
bang-for-buck.

if you replace your clutch, use a FRPP heavy duty trow out bearing.

I know its not fixing it entirely but I have a firewall adjuster for my clutch cable and all I did was create tension on the cable and it stopped the noise....

That's prolonging the pain

. It is a cheap way to fix for a bit, but you should probably replace it instead...

Sorry to tell you guys, but that his problem is a pilot bearing in the transmission. Not a throw out bearing.

The throw out bearing will do the opposite of what you're experiencing. The throw out bearing will squeal when you push the clutch in. You said you push the clutch in and the noise goes away. That would be a bad pilot bearing.

I have the same problem.

Ok, this is me going against the grain again. I had a motorsport king cobra clutch in my vert and couldn't get it out of there fast enough. It had the stiffest pedal effort I have ever felt! Maybe it was just me, but I put a centerforce df in and never looked back. You could also look at a spec stage 2+, very nice clutch, lots of holding power.
Throw out bearing can squeak when barely touching the clutch fingers, and then when you lightly touch it, it goes away. Pilot bearing only makes noise when vehicle is sitting still, trans is in gear, and clutch is depressed. otherwise, it spins with the shaft. If the clutch is clamped on the disk, the pilot bearing doesn't move anymore.

I have the same problem.

Not always. Some TOBs go bad in different ways. The original one on my car blew up and squeeked when the clutch was pushed in, the new(aftermarket one) that is in it now is doing the same noise as the OP describes, and it got worse but the car is parked now.

Oh, and this is a question on the ASE test for manual transmissions and driveline. It can't be the pilot bearing. He says lightly touch the clutch pedal and it goes away. The only way the pilot bearing is spinning is with the trans input shaft and clutch disk disengaged from the flywheel and pressure plate. That's not lightly pushing on the pedal.
