Ive raced a 4.0 several times before my engine rebuild and I would take some advantage from a dig but he would quickly catch up and pass me... but with my fresh engine im sure i can win him now. Seriously though i hate kids with their V6 S197s, thinking there car is real fast and adding cobra badges and sh** to the cars.

lol im younger than him, he wanted my car to make it a track car, only thing i love about his car is his exhaust it really does sound like a v8 to the average ear. he raced a new silverado 5.3 and they stayed together so to me its slow and that was from a dig

Sn95s get a bad rap for some reason. Probably because we are an older model. Anyone in my area with a new edge or newer thinks my car is a turd because its a 96 cobra. Don't even get me started on the people who believe the fact that because it's a B headed 4v still that it is a dog.

I also hate when V6 owners or even GT owners put Cobra badges on it. I don't mind them using the hood or front bumper. But for gods sake don't make a Fobra that is slow.

And OP. I'd say race him. I'd put money on you winning as long as you can drive.

Racing by numbers... causing unsolved arguments since the creation of cars haha.

Can't know anything for sure unless you run 'em. Numbers and speculations are just that, numbers and speculations. Yes a significant difference in numbers can make a difference, but you still never know.

The best numbers to judge by are 1/4 times. And those vary by drivers. So no telling till the time slips are printed. ;)

Its because of the HP ratings of the cars plus the 94-95 Cars are slow stock trust me I know even my '95 Cobra was a dog stock.

Is this a real question...lol

a 4.0 v6 s197 mustang vs a sn95 ..

you should walk it like its standing still...

your car is 170-200rwhp stock, a 4.0 v6 car is a 160-180rwhp car stock. with your mods you should be in the 200-230rwhp untuned with a tune, around 220-250rwhp with your mods, do some gears and a tune and its all over for him. and even if the 4.0 v6 car has mods even full bolt ons in a v6 wont do shit he prob lucky to make 180-200rwhp with every bolt on and still have no where near power band / torque of your v8, and s197 cars are alot heavier then your sn95.

yes horsepower is close, but a 87-98 still has 5-15+more horesepower stock vs stock and 50-75 more Torque and prob good 100+ weight advantage. and your car isnt stock you have some mods, I would say stock vs stock the gt should win by a few cars, and bolt on v6 vs stock sn95 would be close, but v8 should still win with torque and better power band and low end and curbe weight and torque, and soon as you do any 1 mod esp gears on a sn95 its all over for the 4.0 v6 car, the 3.8 and 4.0 v6 cars are junk.only v6 worth a dam is the new 3.7 2011+ v6 cars, which those are still only in the high 13's to mid to low 14's stock. older v6's are 15-17 sec cars stock, and a sn95 gt is a 14-15 sec car stock. so if you dont beat the 4.0 I would drive your car off a cliff lol

It wasn't just the 94/95 GTs, all of them from 94-98 were pretty much low 15s for the manual coupes. 5.0 Cobras ran low 14s, they weren't horrible for mid 90s.

For Ref.

My car bone stock when my friend owned it went a best of 14.6 to 14.7@95 bone stock, but it ran anywhere from 14.6-15.2 @90-95 stock. and I saw a stock 94 cobra @ the track back when my friend owned my car and ran them times stock, a guy with a stock cobra was running 14.0-14.4@93-96

a 4.0 v6 s197 seems to run anywhere from 15.1-15.8@88-92 mph.

so I would say thats a big gap a sn95 car should be alot faster. the slowest time a sn95 car seems to run stock would be best time a 4.0 v6 car can run and thats stock sn95.

i just didnt want to lose, small town if i lose to a v6 then damn i have to sell my car, so many people would talk their shit, its already a chevy fan boy city. i had a clue that i would win because i stopped the pull on a 87-93 mustang notch i dont know his mods but i sure did hear a badass sounding cam, i stopped his pull but before i got to pass him we let off due to traffic

Street racing in any non sanctioned form is dangerous and honestly shouldn't be done :/

Take it to the track. If you don't have one around then why worry about who can be who if its not legal?

their was no one around when we got on it, i dont have my license so im not about to do anything when people are around, speed limit was 40 and we went from about 20, and we let off way before we hit the traffic. cops always stare me down but i honestly dont drive bad at all unless im in back roads, i dont give cops a reason to stop me.

wow, that's pretty rough. My first trip ever to the track I managed a 14.3 @ 98 out of her and she was bone stock; I've heard of guys with more experience running up to a few tenths quicker.

I totally agree e-racing is gay and should be left to civic forums.

However, what people fail to consider is that these 94-98 cars are much older than the newer s197, and typically maintenance has been neglected. Sure they may have made 170=190ish rwhp new, but that was YEARS ago. Op's car even has a 7.5 diff, do you think everything else is brand new and up to spec? I do not know, but that is just another reason that I wouldn't bet against the s197 v6.

Many of the above are comparing best bone-stock 94-98 glory runs, try a actual run-down high mileage car with inexperienced driver and questionable tires and its a new ball game entirely.

The biggest thing over looked in this thread so far is his stock open dif 7.5 rear with what could be 2.73 gears out of the V6. It could have a GT500 swap... with out being able to put the power to the ground, the S197 will pull away every time.
The other big assumption is the car was swapped correctly and is in 100% tip top shape. We already know it's be skimped on by not swapping the rear. What else is missing/done wrong that will hurt?
