Ok here my story right I got plans to buy a procharger, forge the bottem end and do a Trans swap right .......I got the money for the procharger but i always wanted to do a lightning swap and add a Whipple supercharger.......This guy is selling a Lightning motor and the Trans for $3200 with 59k miles on it, So im thinking should i go Procharger or go the Lightning route i work at a shop so getting the motor install aint a problem......I think it would be easier and cheaper to go Lightning route becuase then i wouldnt have to do the Tranny swap cause i'll keep the auto nor would i be looking for a Forged rotating assembly which would save about $3500........PLus if i go the Lightning Route with a whipple on top that would give me alot more hood clearance Just wondering what you guys think i should do Any comments are welcome Thanks

Well i know it still probably wouldnt fit under the stock hood with the Whipple......Im saying it would be alot more clearance then with Stock eaton supercharger on there which mean i could probably put the motor in without cutting a hole in it........... Im just wondering would this be a hard swap cause if not ima buy the Motor and Trans and upgrade suspension etc just dont know whats all needed for the swap

What size cowl would he need? I think a 3in would clear it.

I don't know of a company that makes a hood tall enough for it to fit under...a 3 inch would definitely not be tall enough...

Ok first off even with the hood being a major issue to deal with, you mention you want a whipple on the L motor, thats fine and dandy but you should know that you will be EXTREMELY limited on power levels with the stock bottom end of that Lightning engine. Not trying to down your idea but unless your going to spend the couple grand to build the bottom of the L engine, just stick with the other engine. Unless you just want the ahhhhhhh of having a L engine in your stang........and that is pretty cool in itself. You can do the whipp on the L motor but it will NOT be no where near what it could be with a proper bottom to put it on. Good luck ....

What about other issues with the L motor being a 5.4. Did you even think of that part?

The hood will NO WHERE near fit without LOTS of cutting. There is a car with a Cobra R hood (3.5?) and the little spots that needed cutted, cut out. And it looks so fuckin sick.

p.m. Red97 because he knows of a guy that makes a intake that comes out from the back of the blower like an 03/04 blower set up that saves you several inches.... but costs LOTS of mula

I know the Motor is too tall for the stock hood thats out of the question........If i keep the stock Eaton Of coarse ima just cut a hole in the hood but if i get the Whipple a Cowl Hood should work without cutting at least i hope.......I emailed that guy in that Video yesterday about the swap hopefully i'll hear from him soon......But i thought the L could support a good load of horsepower i know it come with a steel crank but dont know about the rods and pistons.....I know i would have to upgrade my cooling system, Fuel system, rearend, and suspension i just wanna get a good bit of information about this swap before i do it and find out its a whole different ball game then what i expected but it is a Mod motor so it shouldnt be that hard........

L's have sh!tty internals... ask Mr. Struck.... so like he said, youd have to go built....

i would fine a 351 use your 3500 and build what you want put good internals in a reg 351 and its better than a lightning motor get complete motor for 150 out junk yards all day long.im looking at a stroker kit for the 351 myself

Problem there professor. Its a 98. You cant put a pushrod based engine in there without a lot of hassle.

And your completely out of your mind if you think a 'reg' 351 is better than a lightning engine.

I would love to do the swap. I just dont have the money to do it.
To the OP I think the weak link is the rods and pistons, so I would try to find forged and go that route. If you have the money do the swap now and just take it easy! Beef up everything else as money allows.

It will drop right in. Just have to use the 96-04 oil pan and pickup, and the manifolds off a 96-04. Custom H or X to reach up there and Viola!~ 5.4L 'non-pi gt' :)

Why would it be a non pi 5.4.. Couldnt u put P.I heads on it??
It is PI. and they did make a non-pi 5.4, the swap would be the same as a regular 4.6 PI swap.

I thought the Lightning motor came with pretty good internals while i guess i'll look around for a kit to upgrade the internals if i go the Whipple route which if i do the swap im def going to do man that'll be one sick ride plus i got some custom cams laying around i never put in my 4.6 i could put them in the 5.4 :headbang: If i knew exactly what all i needed i would have been did this swap.......
