the thing i can't remember is what year ford started using hydrolic roller cams in the 351.
you can drop any 351, the key is the year, so you know which type of cam it uses.

Im pretty sure 94 an up is the roller cam block. Just wait till one of those pops up, or go search corral there is usually some for sale on there.

You can convert to roller cam in an older block 1 of 2 ways..

1. Any roller cam with those link-bar roller lifters from Crane or Ford Racing (hydraulic roller). These lifters are friggen expensive!

2. Use the stock style roller lifter setup (with the dog bones and spyder bar) as found in our 5.0Ls, but you will need a small base circle camshaft ($$)...

OR as mentioned above, find a roller block from the 94-96 years...

Soo until I wanted to change the cam and had money for the expensive conversion stuff, could I leave the stock cam in there?

You can easily keep the 351 a flat tappet cam style. The link lifter setup usually runs about $400 give or take depending on company. Youll also need to verify yr as older blocks use a 2 piece seal while the newer blocks use a 1 piece. Keep that in mind too. Im sitting on a fresh .30 over 74 351 to go into my 95 when funds permit the build.

Also If I keep it a flat tappet does that lower my Hp chances by alot, And I assume It will mess with my computer...

The ad says its a 89... how do I verify?

If the VIN starts with E9, it's an '89.

That things a boat anchor, and Windsor builds are expensive. Save your cash man.

A truck motor is not better than a 5.0L. They are stronger blocks and can make ridiculous power when they're built but building them IS NOT cheap. Plus, its not just a simple swap. There's a lot of little parts that add up. I considered a 351W swap but abcked out

Are you just talking about swapping in a stock 351w??? Cause i think its not worth the swap unless you adding H/C/I and yeah it gets expensive.

Especially a stock truck block (pretty sure those heads/intake are junk). If you got a lightning motor it would be more justifiable, but already haveing a killer H/C/I to put ontop that 351 block would be very Ideal.

Even with a Lightning block, its just a regular truck 5.8L with Gt40 heads and a GT40 intake that you can't use without a lot of work because it points the wrong way.
