This is my first build thread and my first "play car" that I have had in a very long time, so bare with me. Everything I do to this car will be done in my garage on nights and weekends. I am nowhere near a professional at any of this, so feel free to give me critical feedback as you see fit.

I'll start with a little story:
My car is a fairly rare red-on-red cloth 1994 GT with the 5.0 and T5 manual. The previous owner installed an Eibach Pro Kit, 18X9 FR500 wheels, under-drive pulleys, catted H-pipe, MAC catback exhaust, racing clutch, MSD coil and a few other misc. goodies before parking it for a couple of years in their yard.

Porno Red FTW!:

Enter my father-in-law... He purchased the car as a project that wasn't running and installed a new fuel system and tires to get it on the road. My 16 year old brother-in-law started driving the car while his was in the shop. While in his possession, he managed to sling the back quarter into another car at the school parking lot, curbed the right rear wheel and tire at the mall, and, in his grand finale, tried to take on a Tahoe....he lost.

With the car totaled, I convinced them to sell me the car for $1,100 as it set and I threw on a junk yard fender and lights to get it back to Indiana.

First order of business once I got it home was ripping off the tattered wing and fixing the body work that needed attention:

After a bath and removing the rear wing:

Painting faded tail lights:

During:

After:

Now it was time to tackle the rear bumper and the once Laser Red fender. I used the Duplicolor Perfect Match rattle cans from Auto Zone in both Cardinal Red and Clear. Not a perfect match, but it will do for now:

Removed the bumper for sanding and primer:

After paint and clear:

Finished project, sans a wet sand and buff:

Front fender removed:

Painted:

Finished project:

Obviously the paint match is not perfect and I will probably never be able to buff the finish to the same shine as the rest of the car, but local paint shops are quoting me 4-5k and I just don't have that to throw at the car right now. Looks better than it did and hopefully that will keep me satisfied for a little while longer while I focus on my go-faster priorities.

I'll keep updating as parts arrive and things change. Feedback is always welcomed.

Looking pretty good. Too bad you're not down here. I can get it painted for $1000, and it's a damn good paint job.. Keep up the good work!

Nice work man, looks great. How do you like the catted H with the mac catback? I basically have a mac catback with no tailpipes and the stock catted h pipe, looking to switch to an offroad prochamber. Looks a 1000x better without the wing too

It was fairly clean. I fell in love with it when I first saw it but have uncovered more issues since the teardown that I will be addressing as money rolls in.

I like the catted h alright, but I have an O/R H sitting in my garage waiting to go on. Can't get the bolts loose from the stock headers so I'm just going to replace it all at once.

One of my favorite guys stopped by today and left this:

Which then led to this:

While I was out there screwing around anyway I finally got around to hitting the front fender with some 2000 grit and 205. My buffer bit the dust 5 mins in so I had to do most by hand. Not the greatest finish...but I feel like its acceptable for spray paint.

Nice looking car man! Even with the spray paint. Probably a little too far away but I have a friend here in Dubuque Ia that paints cars. He painted fixed all my dents, some rust, then painted the whole car, trunk jamb, pass door jamb and inner door, underside of the hood, and mirrors, along with painting my rims, and adding satin accents throughout the exterior and buffed it all for $2100. $4-5k is a lot more then it should ever cost to paint a whole car. Yes red does cost a bit more to paint, but so does metallic's like my color. You should be able to find a place to repaint the bumpers, fender, not and fix that quarter for less than $2k. If not you can always make the trip to Iowa. He does killer work also.

Thanks for all the comments!

I got a quote to fix the "bad" spots on the car that was around 2k. However, pictures are deceiving and the car is not as clean as it looks (rear drivers fender is 60% bondo) and with a tinted clear like rio I don't think they would ever get it to match 20 y/o paint. I have spent a lot of time with towels and machine polish trying to get it this nice. Now I'm starting to wish I lived near some of you guys so I could snag a 2k respray!

While your doing fenders go ahead and hit the inner fenders with some black. Youd be surprised at the difference it makes. Subtle yet it makes the wheels and paint pop alittle more

Warning : TO MUCH AWESOME

Project of the day: SR Glow Gauges

I read that a lot of guys were having trouble getting them to light up, but it was pretty straight forward I thought.

Connected the power wire to the gray power wire on the switch panel and created my own ground behind the dash. Not my best electrical work but they don't leave you much slack in the factory harness.

They look a little more ricey than what I was hoping for, but it's still a big improvement over the stock gauges. Now I just have to figure out something for the a/c controls.

Opal Frost, its a sweet color! Its silver with a hint of blue and lots of flake. Its somewhat of a rare color, not like mystic rare, but it did cost extra from the factory so lots of people opted out.

Wow man good buy on your part. And good job making it driveable again. I've painted body parts with that perfect match before and I admit it really doesn't come out that bad!
